Newly-leaked diplomatic cables provide evidence that Boeing partnered with a Brazilian company to work on a previously undisclosed unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) project.

The dispatch from the US embassy in Brasilia dated 15 January 2009 came during the most intense period in the competition for the F-X2 fighter contract, which involved the Boeing F/A-18E/F Super Hornet.

On 13 January 2009, US Ambassador Clifford Sobel met with Nelson Jobim, then Brazil's minister of defence, to discuss Boeing's position in the competition, the cable says.

The issue of technology transfer prompted Nelson to praise Boeing's work with an undisclosed Brazilian company.

Boeing and Lockheed sure are buddy buddy with a lot of hostile nations! Exactly WHAT are they up to? How many Chinese have they brought in and EXACTLY what is being “exchanged”?

In the case of UAV’s-—do we really want terrorists getting ahold of UAV technology?

The ones you need to worry about are the aerospace companies from China and Russia doing business in foreign contries. They do not care what they sell and to whom. At least American companies have the State Department and the Pentagon approving the sale to a particular country.

Economically, yes. They are putting out a half way decent prop jet for the lower end of the Executive jet market.

Gotta have something for those old Nazis to do.

Brasil uses UAVs effectively for border patrol and drug interdiction (unlike another major country I could name...)

The problem is that now after years of working with a socialist President Lula who actually turned out to be a huge benefit to Brasil, we and these companies are dealing with a likely hostile Communist ex-guerrilla President Dilma Rousseff. She has openly stated support for some of our worst enemies, but Obama may simply "appreciate and respect" this.

Suffice to say, I believe that due to the amount of money already invested in this venture, nothings going to change as far as development, and this technology will definitely find it's way into the hands of people that thinking Americans don't want it to.

Such is the nature of constantly changing Latin American politics, and now apparently our own.

It’s not just about sales approved by the US Senate-—it’s who they are bringing into the USA! And what they are building overseas!
