WASHINGTON Echoing John F. Kennedy, President Barack Obama prodded business leaders Monday to "ask yourselves what you can do for America," not just for company bottom lines, even as he sought to smooth his uneasy relations with the nation's corporate executives.
Speaking to the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, the president urged the business community to help accelerate the slow economic recovery by increasing hiring and unleashing some of the $2 trillion piling up on their balance sheets.
"I want to encourage you to get in the game," Obama said.
He enumerated new efforts by his administration to improve the nation's business infrastructure, spend more to support entrepreneurs and foster greater innovation. He vowed to address "a burdensome corporate tax code," and go after "unnecessary and outdated regulations."
But to a polite, subdued audience of about 200 he also offered a stout defense of health care and financial regulation overhauls two signature administration initiatives that caused some of the most rancorous disputes with the Chamber last year.

He holds the race card. He could rape his dog and people would say “How nice”.
Each member of the audience probably donates more to charity per year than this clown does.
And real charities, not the CBC.
What he is really asking is what can they do to prop up his presidency by hiring people that they don’t need to produce items they can’t sell to people who are not buying.
The race card is only effective in the eyes of the other racists.
An ABC radio report tonight mentioned the awkward silences when the audience did not applaud. The audience only applauded twice.
Talk about an occasion for “you lie!”. Here’s a guy who has never worked a day in the private sector. His only understanding of business or economics comes from Marxist theory. It is abundantly clear that he has NO idea how jobs are created or what it means to take risk.
I'm sitting here with replies running through my my head. Most of them are screaming. I will just say that, for now.
Shouldn’t the headline be “CEO’s to _resident: ASK what You could do for America?”
The Rats are shovel-ready for the dustbin of history.
Wise business leaders responded that they could move their business out of America, to China, where they would be supplied union workers that work, and wait for the American people to learn their lesson well.
LOL! I needed a laugh.
I listened to some of the clips of this speech and it sure sounded to me like the Kenyan was calling for another war similar to the buildup after Pearl Harbor, in order to get the Government and Corporations to partner up and increase the economy. And of course start spreading the wealth of the shareholders out to the union employees (he gets really emotional when talking about the $2 TRILLION of stockholder wealth sitting on the Corp balance sheets, not being parceled out to his union butt buddies).
What they can do for America is to help fund the defeat of this Moo-slim, Marxist, steaming pantload in the 2012 election.....
The difference is that JFK asked for sacrifice from every American. Obama has no intention of asking for sacrifice from his own base of union members and welfare slugs, who still expect taxpayers to pay for their gas and mortgage.
These Captains of Industry were either too cowed or too polite to say: “Mr. President, you could retire.”
Why doesn’t he deliver that message to the unions.
The Kennedys are back in the White House!!
Michelle is the new Jackie and Barack is channeling JFK!
Liberal Nirvana!!
