Kuykendall lost in 2000, when the lines were the same as when he won in 1998; he lost because (i) Harman was a strong candidate and (ii) Gore won big in the district. Of course, the Democrats gerrymandered the district in 2002 to make it more Democrat and thus safe for Harman.

Wow. A Congresshole who actually gives up his or her power before assuming room temperature. Weird.

Oh, wait. She just bought Newsweak not too long ago. For a dollar I think. No, no, no. She didn't buy a copy of Newsweak for a dollar. I mean she bought the whole damn company for a dollar.

Apparently that's worked out so well she can afford to quit her day job.

Why do I get the feeling she's only going to end up in another government position where she can use her influence to diminish our standing in the world, weaken our economy and further erode our freedoms?

Is it corruption or cancer? Maybe she’s ill? Alzheimers? Or banking “issues”?

hich means deflated real estate, high unemployment and businesses leaving like rats fleeing a sinking ship. I think it could easily go GOP with the right candidate.

Torrance and El Segundo have massive aerospace employers
and LAX is in that area as well. Lots of good jobs there
(if you qualify).

Yeah...I know. Used to live in SoCal...

I just wouldn't live in either of those cities.

Had a good friend that worked for Hughes Aircraft....that learned to fly out of Torrance Airport. That's been a long time ago...now.

FRegards,

“Pre redistricting this used to be a 50/50 district, maybe slight lean republican. After redistricting, this is 60-70% sold dem district.”

Could depend on the candidates, themselves. California is more “independent” than many areas.

So a really outstanding Republican might stand a chance.

No worries - I lived in Redondo briefly in 1974 when I worked in Santa Monica - too close to Hawthorne Blvd and the Old Towne Mall and too far away from the beach.

Ghastly traffic and noise. Much rather live in Okla
than SoCal...

Harmon would do most anything to be chair of the House Intelligence Committee. Read on.

CIRCA 2009 Cong Jane Harman is caught on tape vowing to use her office to protect AIPAC spies in exchange for AIPAC‘s pulling political strings to make her chair of the House Intelligence Committee. AIPAC and the case against Cong Jane Harman goes a lot deeper, and is related to the Pentagon staffer who leaked national security material to persons not entitled to receive it (that is to say, spying).

SOURCE http://www.salon.com/opinion/greenwald/2009/04/20/harman/index.html | 4/20/09

BACKSTORY---CIRCA 2006 Important new details of the espionage case involving Larry Franklin, the convicted Pentagon spy, two AIPAC officials........ Steve Rosen and Keith Weissman----said to have left the organization but may still be drawing salaries---were indicted, along with Franklin, on charges of "communicat[ing] national defense information to persons not entitled to receive it." In plain English, that means spying. But as the full text of the indictment makes clear, the conspiracy involved not just Franklin and AIPAC insiders, but at least several other Pentagon officials who played intermediary roles, at least two Israeli officials, and one official at a Washington, DC think tank.

Major scandal erupts involving Rep. Jane Harman, Alberto Gonzales and AIPAC
FR Posted on Tuesday, April 21, 2009 by FromLori
FR POSTED http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/2234132/posts

An extremely important and well-reported story from CQ's Jeff Stein involves allegations of major corruption and serious criminal activity on the part of Democratic Rep. Jane Harman.

Here's one crucial prong of the story: Rep. Jane Harman, the California Democrat with a longtime involvement in intelligence issues, was overheard on an NSA wiretap telling a suspected Israeli agent that she would lobby the Justice Department to reduce espionage-related charges against two officials of the American Israeli Public Affairs Committee, the most powerful pro-Israel organization in Washington. a bigger question is not whether GOP can compete in this district, but whether they will even try to run a legit campaign. Michael Steele would have called for a punt. RNC likes to punt of 3rd down and 2.

I lived in Hermosa as a kid. I do not know how the district was drawn back then, but “B-1 Bob” Dornan was our Congressman. Different times.

you are getting smarter all the time. I know cuz your thinking like me more and more.

Spring thaw is near, and the Palin-project in NH is upon us. A 7-month window of opportunity to cover the state before SNOW season starts again.

Interesting point, but when Steve Kuykendall won it, the district lines were different.
