Sens. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) and Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) have rekindled their alliance on immigration reform, taking some early steps to test the political will for addressing the contentious issue this year.
(snip)
Its in the infant stage, Graham told POLITICO. I dont know what the political appetite is to do something.
(snip)
And in one closely watched comment, Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) let it slip recently that Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) seems to think that theres a shot at this. It led to a round of speculation that the McCain of the past, the senator who ushered a comprehensive bill through the chamber in 2006, might be ready to come back.
(snip)
The involvement of heavyweights like McCain and Sen. Jon Kyl (R-Ariz.) may be the only way to lend broader credibility to the effort.
Conservatives are hacked off with Schumer for so many reasons, said the Rev. Richard Land, president of the Southern Baptist Conventions Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission, who supports comprehensive immigration reform. Both carry baggage. There need to be some new faces that carry the issue, such as Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.).
(snip)
McCain said he wont rejoin the talks until Congress approves a 10-point border security plan, which he and Kyl introduced last year, and the governors of the states adjoining Mexico certify their borders as secure.
The smart move for the country and the administration would be, take McCain-Kyl and make it law, Graham said. Let everybody know we are putting resources in the border and were going to fix it. And then move on to the other parts.
(snip)
Murkowski confirmed to POLITICO that her staff has been contacted by Schumer aides to discuss the issue, but the discussions havent involved her yet.

What you've laid out is nothing but one more amnesty plan. You allow all the illegals to stay in the US and work legally. Any plan that waives the legally prescribed penalty for the laws broken is an amnesty plan. The law prescribes deportation for illegal entrants.
Denying citizenship to the illegal entrants (but not their descents for as long as the USA exists) accomplishes nothing.
doesn’t it take a house bill to make law?
Nope, not a chance in hades. Not with the one we have now.
Exactly. Maybe Juan M’s movement will force Rubio to expose himself on immigration. That would be a very good thing.
I think the idea is to "test the political will," then let in ten or fifteen million additional illegals, then "test the political will" again. Repeat this procedure until the "political will" is in favor of unlimited cheap groundskeepers and drivers for the elites.
Meanwhile, build their gated compounds and gated communities, so that America looks more and more like Mexico every year. "Hey, where's the problem? There's no problem where I live."
The House and Senate both would have to pass an immigration bill, but since it wouldn't be an appropriation bill, it wouldn't have to originate in the House. The Senate could try to pass something, then send it to the House for consideration.

I've sent letters to both of these traitors with this included. They don't get it.
Let us watch McCain’s number one media lapdog, Sean Hannity, gloss over this one. I know his response “McCain is a great man strong on defense”. What a joke Hannity is.
Good summary of what is going on. What utopians and invaders don't realize is that, if they succeed in destroying the USA, the whole world will become much more miserable. I think the jihadists would consider that as their mission accomplished, but the people of Mexico do not realize what the real consequences would be.
Ping!
Perhaps they were distracted by Uncle Sam’s tragic loss of his left arm. :p
For starters, that senator McLame never left, he just stayed quiet during his reelection bid and tried to act all conservative. Secondly, and more important, not only did Juan usher comprehensive immigration through the chamber in 2006, but in so doing, he USHERED OUT the GOP's majority in that same election. That brought in the Pelosi/Reid congress who drove spending to the moon, but because Bush was in office he got the blame. Come '08 and the 2 years of spending, along with the MSM's daily chorus of "Bush is bankrupting the country" we got the joke of the Hussein presidency. I won't even get into the pathetic performance we witnessed during his FAILED presidential run. Suffice it to say, Sarah Palin was the ONLY bright spot in his whole campaign and he let her twist in the wind half the time.
McLame deserves a great deal of the "credit" for the hopey change JOKE presidency we're suffering under today, so IMHO he should be keeping his mouth shut and laying low until retirement in 2016. He's an embarrassment, and shame on AZ for foisting him on the rest of the country.
Unfortunately, being from CT, I know mine will :-(
Good idea first secure the border and we will talk about amnesty next year or maybe next decade, hell why not better yet next century.
This is a straw man the left loves to use. You don't need to have mass roundups.
You do need some basic common sense enforcement such as:
1) Enforce the current laws
2) Set up a system where employers can verify status, if they hire an illegal anyway, fine them out of business.
3) Anyone being stopped for a traffic violation gets their status run. If you're here illegally, you're gone.
4) Same situation if you show up in a hospital emergency room. In such case you're patched up and deported. DONE!!
5) Uncle Sugar puts an END to any and all benefits, unless you're a citizen or holder of a VALID green card. No food stamps, UI, WIC or public education for your kids.
6) The policy of anchor babies stops TODAY!!!
7) No more "Press #1 for English" whenever you call a government entity.
After a few years of this, guess what, self-deportation begins to happen, and the cost isn't any more than what we currently pay for the current free for all immigration system.
I hear ya' It's almost as pathetic as watching him slobber over Lieberman. "Well he's great on the war on terrorism." .
Yeah Sean, OK, but if we don't have a country because of his progressive policies, the terrorists win anyway.
I can agree with most if not all of your ideas.
At least one of yours is going to need a Constitutional Amendment.
Like I said, mine were a starting point for discussion.
Commie libs like Graham and Schumer are anxious to get as many foreign and anti-American, freeloading, new ‘RAT voters in this country as they can.
Like I said, mine were a starting point for discussion.
If you mean anchor babies, I'm not so sure. That was decided by SCOTUS interpretation of the 14th amendment. I think it would only require a reversal of the Supreme Court's decision. An amendment would clarify the issue though.
