CPAC 2011: Boycott Deters Few Potential Presidential Candidates

President Ronald Reagan at CPAC

Various factions are developing among GOP groups over whether the American Conservative Union (ACU), headed by Tom Keene, should have accepted a “homosexual rights” group (GOProud) to be a co-sponsor of its annual Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC), which begins February 10th.  Several groups are boycotting the event, such as the Heritage Foundation, the Family Research Council, The American Principles Project, and the American Family Association.  In addition, politicians Mike Huckabee and Jim DeMint have declined invitations. Past keynote speakers have included Ann Coulter, President Ronald Reagan (14 years in a row!) and Glenn Beck.

Last year, shouting matches erupted when young speakers Alexander McCobin and Ryan Sorba squared off on the issue.  This year, Matt Drudge sidekick Andrew Breitbart, never one to avoid trouble,  is hosting a bash to thank CPAC for inviting GOProud.

Other potential presidential candidates who plan to attend this year include Tim Pawlenty, Rick Santorum, Mitt Romney, and Newt Gingrich. The complete list of confirmed speakers is below.

Sarah Palin will not be appearing, but she did not use the words GOProud, homosexual, or gay when asked whether she was going to CPAC by David Brody of CBN.  She said she doesn’t have time, not that she is boycotting it:

“Well, I’ve never attended a CPAC conference ever so I was a little taken aback this go around when I couldn’t make it to this one either and then there was a speculation well I either agree or disagree with some of the groups or issues that CPAC is discussing.  It really is a matter of time for me. But when it comes to and David, perhaps what it is that you’re suggesting in the question is...

I can see both sides on this, and would support candidates going ahead to speak if they made it clear they disapproved of CPAC inviting GOProud, but I doubt if any will have the courage to “diss” their hosts. Otherwise, I support the boycott.

As for me, I won’t be supporting a single candidate that shows up at this farce. I did not coin the term, but but there is no C at CPAC.

What did you think of Sarah Palin’s ducking of the issue. Apparently, she has no problem with “GOProud” but she isn’t going.

But she still isn’t going. I’m sure a true conservative “doesn’t have the time” to go to a non-conservative event. Why waste one’s time with a bunch of preenining RINOS?

Why would any GOP CONSERVATIVE help CPAC
support the Islamic invasion, CAIR, and antiSemitism?

"(at CPAC 2010, the) message there was that "real conservatives" don't support the war
on terror because it is a creation of the "Israeli lobby" - which coalesces with the left-
wing's new anti-Semitism against neoconservatives. Karen Kwiatkowski is a darling of
both the leftist Huffington Post and the anti-Semitic paleocon site Antiwar.com.

…is a board member of the ACU, and from the looks of CPAC's
covered topics and omission of discussion of jihad, it looks as if he exerts enormous
influence over David Keene, the ACU's nominal leader. Norquist and his ally Suhail
Khan seem to be in charge at CPAC - no CPAC event goes on that doesn't reflect their perspective. ….
Grover Norquist's troubling ties to Islamic supremacists and jihadists have been known
for years. He and his Palestinian wife, Samah Alrayyes, who was director of
communications for his Islamic Free Market Institute until they married in 2005, are very
active in "Muslim outreach." …..
It was Norquist who ushered these silver-tongued jihadists into the Oval Office after the
worst attack ever on American soil. ….
Grover Norquist was on the jihad payroll before and after the carnage and death of
September 11….
Norquist also introduced Nihad Awad, cofounder and executive director of the Council
on American-Islamic Relations, to President Bush. ….
It is no surprise that CPAC 2010, like CPAC 2009, had nothing addressing the war we
are actually engaged in. This is due to the influence of Norquist, Keene, and Suhail Khan,
a CPAC board member. According to Gaffney, Khan "has repeatedly been a featured
speaker at MSA, ISNA and CAIR events" - that is, Muslim Students Association, Islamic
Society of North America, and Council on American-Islamic Relations, three groups
linked to the Muslim Brotherhood, the international Islamic organization dedicated to
establishing the rule of Islamic law and the subjugation of infidels worldwide."

Let us remember why Pres. Reagan would avoid CPAC and Romney.

Mitt Romney: "I'm not running as the Republican view or a continuation of Republican values.
That's not what brings me to the race.

(Romney Video, accessed 9/19/07)

"We don't intend to turn the Republican Party
over to the traitors in the battle just ended.
We will have no more of those candidates who are pledged
to the same goals as our opposition and who seek our support.
Turning the Party over to the so-called moderates
wouldn’t make any sense at all.""

Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Someone has to say it, over and over and over.

WHY (and the reason I would never attend CPAC) any Republi-Tard, never mind Conservative, have not disavowed and distanced themselves from this DANGEROUS, Islamo-Fascist, Supporting/Enabling, bottom-feeding, SCUMBAG, (Norquist) is beyond me.

It's not like there is not a mountain of info (evidence) which shows his true "Jihadist" colors.

This is very troubling!!!

Unlike what the Huckatard says, it is not becoming “more libertarian.” Let’s not forget that terrorist lover Grover Norquist is on the board of directors. Republicans should disavow any connection with that thug.

Obama = Romney = CPAC = SHAPESHIFTERS

Romney praises Obama again
WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney praised President Obama
at a GOP fundraising dinner Wednesday ..
"I also think it's important for us to nod to the president when he's right," Romney said....
Romney, who spoke at a dinner for the National Republican Senatorial Committee,
said he's pleased with the president's plans to "finish the job" in Iraq and Afghanistan
-- lines that drew applause from the partisan audience. He also applauded the president
for standing up to the auto industry.
"I hope he continues to be tough ....The former businessman even offered faint praise for
Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner, saying that after a series of initial missteps,
"I think he's finally getting close to the right answer."

Praising Geithner alone is enough of a reason to keep Romney a long way from the White House...
