AOL To Buy The Huffington Post
Nathan Olivarez-Giles February 6, 2011
Arianna Huffington is selling the Huffington Post to AOL Inc. for $315 million in cash.
The deal, which Huffington announced on her blog on the Huffington Post website and AOL announced in a news release, will move the co-founder of the news site to the position of president and editor in chief of a new Huffington Post Media Group division at AOL.
The purchase will increase AOL's news portfolio as it competes against Yahoo's growing online news publication profile and Google's news efforts, as well as traditional media companies online.

Additional AOL news websites will fall under Huffington's control as well.
In a statement, AOL said it is buying the Huffington Post with about $300 million from on-hand cash. The purchase has yet to acquire government approvals, but the boards of directors of each company and shareholders of the Huffington Post have approved the transaction, AOL said.

Very true. HuffPo’s formula seems to be a combination of liberalism of the most airheaded kind, celebrity tattle, and bikini pix. I think the perfect HuffPo entry would be something like: “PHOTOS: Megan Fox talks transgender rights IN A TINY BIKINI.”
Some of their bloggers post good articles. Others are just nuts!
Don't do it!
Every man she has ever slept with has converted to homosexuality.
MediaMole, khnyny
“AOL has been going heavy into online news for some time.”
Something stinks here. AOL has always been a sleazeball outfit.
Me neither -- since FR is fine just the way it is. On the other hand, if a suitable buyer comes along with the right amount of money, it could be beneficial.
Theres too much media concentration already!
In my heart, I tend to embrace that since we all pull for the "little guy". Looking at it pragmatically though, the beauty of an unfettered free marketplace is that a willing buyer and a willing seller can agree on a price without regulation prohibiting such a deal.
In many ways, media concentration has been very good since resources can be more strategically allocated with greater efficiencies. As a stockholder in a media company, I've been nicely rewarded by the growth as a result of such consolidation.
Lol. Huffington is the “Globe Magazine” of online yellow journalism.
300 million! But it’s worthless!
LOL! AOL..........what a HUGE blunder, imo. LOL
I’ve been to a few of the lefty “patch” websites, but didn’t know they were part of AOL. It looks like they’re trying to copy the Examiner.
Examiner started out to be pretty decent, but they have too many popups and other ads now.
OK. Instead of not surfing AOL and not surfing Huffpost, I will not surf AOL/Huffpost.
Saudis recycling money. They were putting tons of money in HP during the primaries to support Obama on Huff Po. Al Waleed owns a lot of Time Warner plus Fox plus Disney.
The media and TV are total sh*t plus evil.
Time-Warner had high speed internet service as early as 2000, but AOL instead of using its software to make the online service better than its competitors high speed services, tried to keep its software separate. They had much better online email software for its own AOL service than they let Time-Warner use on its Road Runner high speed internet service. SBC and later, AT&T after being acquired by its former subsidiary, have much better online email software using YAHOO! since 2003.
Why would anyone spend that amount of money for junk like that?
Now I see they are really becoming bigger DUmmies.
For the Huffington comPOST to call itself a web news site is terribly misleading to say the least, but then again the MSM seems to be a race among themselves to see who can reach the bottom of the barrel first.
AOL will soon be regretting this.
aol have a long history of buying junk at its peak then sitting on it and allowing it to decay
There was no liberal or conservative slant to the article. Just a “hey, there's a new business in town, go check it out!” post. And trust me, in my line of work, you can go off the left end quickly with bashing me.
Can't say it brought a lot of people in, but I did get a few.
