I am afraid of Vouchers. What keeps voucher receivers from becoming just another public school? Do they have to run under the Bush-Kennedy No Child left Behind law? Can I open my own Brother-in-law school , hiring illegals for teachers. Absurd, you say, of course it is. If they have to run under the same rules, what’s different? Of course I am just panting to get more federal money (SPELLED CONTROL) in our local schools. Our local school district is 3.5 M down, how are vouchers going to remedy that? By bringing more dough from Washington? They have cut staff, but no teachers. No, dont cry UNIONS!!! Teachers in TX dont work under union contracts, and the unions can assure the members that the administration remain honest and abide by the current laws.

Not surprising. The NEA is all about what’s best for teacher job security. The group doesn’t really care about the education of the children, their protestations notwithstanding. I wish parents who blindly supported the teachers’ union understood this.

Act to Stop School Voucher Bill!

You'd think the teachers would support this overwhelmingly. For the first time in decades the children would come first. Aren't the children the real issue here?

Don't be. Most parents want the best for their children. If a school isn't what the parents want, they can use another. The vouchers force schools to compete for the parents hearts. Most Americans are conservative, and those schools that teach reading, writing, arithmetic, and moral values will come out on top in the end. The competition will bring out the best.

Be aware, the union calls any bill they don’t like VOUCHERS.

This is NOT vouchers....this is a tax credit bill...they hate it equally because it might reduce their power and influence but it is NOT vouchers.

we have Charter Schools in TX which are a school of Choice. I really can't comment on. We can already choose any School in the district or any other school in the state I guess. As jumping from school to school, doesn't seem that the students will go along with idea. I am reminded of an old song: When a man jumps from church to church, you can bet his religion don't amount to much”. The same thing could be said of schools. From what I have read, the charter schools are filled with thugs which get expelled from PS. Today Private S can accept or reject any student and expel any trouble makers. The PS don't have this option. After the private schools latch onto the public teat, they won't have that option either. If the parents look in the mirror they will see most of the problem.

so you’d be in favor of tuition tax credits instead, right?

But like the Bush tax cuts, the would only benefit the Wealthy, and not the half that doesn't pay taxes. Besides, how are we ever going to have a fair tax if we keep funding with tax credits. Repeal the compulsory school laws. and let the devil take the hindmost.
