The biggest moment any singer can ask for: "The Star Spangled Banner" at the Super Bowl. And Christina Aguilera messed up the lyrics. At about 51 seconds in, as she was about to sing the fourth line ("O'er the ramparts we watched, were so gallantly streaming"), she accidentally sang a hybrid of the second line: "What so proudly we watched, at the twilight's last streaming."

Her father is an American military veteran. Her mother is of mixed background ~ the usual though ~ no latin stuff in there.
So what are you saying ~ send an American citizen whose parents are citizens to Mexico ~ for what?
Good grief, we don't even send Mexicans to Mexico.

Like to add that this is Free Republic and we have TOO many on here who don't think an American veteran's daughter is good enough to sing the National Anthem.
I think it's time for them to ship out back to whatever third-world hellholes they came from.
It does not matter that she screwed up ~ as another poster noted even Robert Goulet forgot the entire score! Not the first time nor the last time.

I think they stretch out each syllable to maximize the amount of camera face time.

Someone was clever enough to screw up Wikipedia’s entry before the show. She didn't cross check past Wikipedia.
I hope some Texas US Attorney brings up on a misdemeanor charge.

It does not matter that she screwed up Of course it matters! Geez. If your accountant screws up and forgets to file your income tax on time, does it matter? If your lawyer hangs you out to dry in a lawsuit because he didn't file the paperwork on time, does it matter?Or do you think it's OK because, well, gosh, gee his dad was a veteran?
You are incomprehensible to me.
The woman is supposed to be a professional. If she had any class, she would refund her fee.

THe Super Bowl is not a singing context. You may well think it is, but CLUE it isn’t.

That’s right, it’s not a singing contest. It’s not even amateur night. People get paid to sing at those events, and they’re supposed to do their jobs.

That's between the singer and the contractor isn't it.
You didn't pay to hear her. In short, you don't have a dog in the hunt on this one.

I found that she did a quite acceptable job. No one on this thread could have done better under the conditions anyway, and she looked great.
Even professional actors and actresses can have a spell of stage fright every now and then.
I'm happy because tonight I can read the subscript on my TV screen with my right eye all by itself. That's the first time in about 8 months that's been true.
You guys go off in a corner and whine to each other, OK!
