Here in the totally Democrat-run state of IL, a 66% income tax just hit our paychecks last week. As you can imagine, anyone with any sense has spent the last week discussing to which state we should flee. My friends and I have been fantasizing about a conservative commune where everyone showers, no one would starve (because we hunt) and there is no wife-swapping. Its a fun exercise to think about. Several of us believe a solution to our partisan problems (before it descends into civil war) might just be to part ways with the American Left and set up traditional American government in the already conservative states. The first goal should be in beefing up these already rational and taxpayer-friendly states with more like-minded citizens. Too many of us are separated and living in enemy territory, forced into an ideological closet from which we dare not exit for fear of public humiliation and shunning.
Living in a solid blue state, it is nearly impossible not to have been accosted at a cocktail party while trying to enjoy some shrimp by a (literally) foaming at the mouth leftist who accidentally found out you voted for Bush. And God forbid it should be discovered you once worked for Rush Limbaugh (like me). In that scenario, not one person would come to your defense if your accuser threw you through a plate glass window. Im not a bumper sticker person (too hard to scrape off) but Ive known a few brave souls whove had their cars scratched for advertising their conservative beliefs. There must be better places to live. Ive come to the conclusion that now might be the time to start looking. The following are the best and worst places in the country for a conservative...

I don't understand the question marks unless you mis-read 4.8% as 48% (they'd try that if they thought they had the corps trapped).
Washington state is dripping with Emo hippie-wannabes hawking coffee and reminiscing about grunge music. Seattle is a breeding ground for anti-military activity and leftist activism. If you dont mind running into an anti-war protest on your way to the grocery store, then this is the place for you. Or, if you dont mind boarding a bus with a sign emblazoned on it that says Israeli war crimes-your tax dollars at work then pack up your stuff in your hemp bags and head Northwest. ...
Say WA? Evergreen State ping

places to avoid bump for later......
I didn’t misread anything. I did a cut and past from the article as posted.
It’s a great place and worth fighting for.
Besides where else do you get to reaffirm your values everyday?

I'm still not understanding why you put question marks after my line of the tax rate increasing. Were you questioning the figures or where I was getting them?
We've also heard very good things about Liberty, Missouri and Sevierville, Tennessee.
I don't think I'd be socially comfortable east of the Mississippi and i don't care for hot, humid and insect prolific areas. So, we don't know what we are going to do. But we do know one thing. As beautiful as it is here, we made a BIG mistake moving to western Washington. The liberals as are a nasty hearted bunch. They literally detest anyone who doesn't think like them. Every thing they think, do and breathe is political.
ok, so I DID misread the to/from, i.e., that the tax went from 7 to 4.8?% That wouldn’t have made much sense as an increase. Mea Culpa.
bet that went right over evryones head...not me...former summer resident Tensas PARISH
The Marietta/Kennesaw area is pretty gosh-darn conservative, too. When I lived there, I reveled in the whining from a liberal website about how it was the worst place in the world for “progressives”. Heeheehee
Wahington State the 5th worst state for conservatives? I dunno, I grew up here. I love it here. Of course I stay the hell out of the Seattle-Tacoma area if at all possible. Stick tto the rural areas, don’t get too hung up on how long it’s been since we had a GOP (nevermind conservative) governor and you should be just fine. If you simply cannot live in a state with people that have views opposite of yours on a few major issues.....I hear Texas is real nice.
“Property taxes are nothing exceptional, either. I would be paying at least double the property taxes in Texas.”
You are correct there. I live in Washington on a small farm I bought recently. 2.5 acres of land, 2750 sq. ft. of house and my yearly property taxes are $2200.00
Not a problem. I've had an increasing number of "Senior Moments" and thought this was the latest. :-)
Ah, Santa Cruz. A town that has suspended reality.
Nice to visit, fun to watch the slackers on Pacific St.
I fled to WA from MI, and enjoy not having to pay a state income tax. The sales tax is high but better than having the state take a chunk of your income every paycheck.
E. WA is full of conservatives. Unfortunately, the I-5 corridor screws up the rest of the state.
