The Obama administration is pressing a reset button to return the Middle East to the bad old days of open Arab-Israeli warfare. The White House is requiring participation of the Muslim Brotherhood in any prospective new Egyptian government, while the brothers themselves are telling their countrymen to prepare for war. The current crisis in Egypt and the Obama administrations maladroit response are forcing strategists to consider conflict scenarios that had been mothballed since the 1970s.
The Camp David Accords have formed the bedrock of U.S. security policy in the Mideast region since they were signed in 1978. The strategic logic behind the accords was that no coalition of Arab states could have a chance of waging a successful conventional conflict against Israel without including powerful Egypt. Subtracting Cairo from the equation would mean no new Arab-Israeli wars.
The possibility now looms that Egypt could be back on the bad side of the ledger. Rather than reaching out to progressive, secular, Western-oriented dissident groups, who are more sympathetic to the United States and not virulently anti-Israel, President Obama is inexplicably placing his weight behind important non-secular actors such as the America-hating Muslim Brotherhood. A new government dominated by these Islamic extremists would almost certainly seek another round of conflict. The brothers have not only threatened war against Israel but also have a long term objective of eliminating and destroying the Western civilization from within and sabotaging its miserable house by their hands and the hands of the believers so that it is eliminated...

Mr. Obama is in over his head with this crisis and may end up helping dismantle the only positive and lasting achievement of Jimmy Carters administration. The Obama team could not have better orchestrated a looming existential crisis for Israel and the Mideast if they had tried.

Does the Egyptian military want to lose much of their inventory of hardware in a preemptive stike or block the MB?
Interesting to see the Washington Times praising the Camp David Accords.
Who says they haven't been trying?
Yes, Obama has be working long and hard at it.
Egypt is a tough country to defend and if they were to attack Israel, their air force would be destroyed in 24 hours and US allies would control the Suez, Alex within a week and Cairo in a week.
Obama needs a war to distract the masses.
Yes, I was a little surprised too but it’s a good point.
Then what would we do with it. It would be as bad as taking over Haiti.
I hope Israel talks to Russia or China. They are no friends of the muzzies. Israel will get no help from this admin.
Maybe, but, alternatively, this may be just what Obama and his coreligionists want. Obama's long assault on the status of the US in the world, his diminishment of Western allies, and his tilting of the US toward the Muslim world, may be about to bear deadly fruit.
You couldn’t be more right and what a shame, impeachment is in order but it won’t happen.
Egypt is nothing like Haiti as they have a large professional class and industry.
And if it got really bad, you simply seize Alex and the Suez and let them fight among themselves in Cairo.
It would not be cheap nor pretty but as it is now, we throw them a couple billion a year.
Yes. And, worse, he's way out of his depth.
“I hope Israel talks to Russia or China. They are no friends of the muzzies. Israel will get no help from this admin.”
All Israel has to do is threaten Iran’s capacity to pull oil out of the ground and get in onto ships, and this is over.
If you think Iran can close the straights, imagine what Israel could do.
Not with Obama as CIC.
It is long-standing American policy and he would have no choice, but to defend Israel and control the Suez.
As it is now, it does not seem that he has a problem waging war.
No, he's not. He wishes for the destruction of Israel. And he's doing everything he can to assure it.
As much as I'd prefer to think otherwise, this is not a "mistake" -- it's a carefully planned venture.
“Obama needs a war to distract the masses.” In order to put his marxist regime in place and declare himself king.
There, fixed it.
