for instance Palin2012 may well be taken by a cybersquatter with a trademark Gov Palin can quickly assume the domain on hundreds like it.

Bingo!

Of course, I’d have advised her also to register (and use as a trademark) “Palin” because that would be more helpful at getting palin2012.net that might have been grabbed by a cybersquatter.

The process to extract such domains is quite easy.

She’s on the right track, but getting poor execution of the strategy.

good point but be doing sarah palin and bristol palin she can do about the same thing. and it allows bristol to be part of any campaign she chooses to be a part of and/or any career path she chooses to take. Bristol is in talks for a radio show in AZ so she would want her name protect also. If she did Palin then her children would not have the same protections and Gov Palin would have to enter into cases unrelated to the campaign...

Is it fair that Palin get the domain Palin2012 from someone who purchased it already? What does that owner get in return or do I don’t understand how this work. You call it a squatter but isn’t it good business sense if you have a domain name of someone who is famous? I would hope that if she does get this approved and the individual who obtained or even purchased this domain get compensated for it to the tune of millions.
