The attacks on journalists covering the protests in Egypt have escalated, with reports Fox News correspondent Greg Palkot and his photographer Olaf Wiig have been severely beaten in an attack in Cairo. Fox News anchor John Roberts described the attack today, saying Palkot and Wiig were left with “fairly grave” injuries but have now been released from the hospital.

Palkot, who’s been in the center of the protests in Cairo for days, became cornered by pro-government forces, according to Roberts:

They were forced to leave their position when a Molotov cocktail was thrown at it, a large fire erupted. They were forced to flee. They ran out and ran right into the pro Mubarak crowd and were severely beaten and had to be taken to the hospital, spent the night in the hospital. The extent of their injuries was fairly grave, however, they have been released from the hospital.

They said “We hate America” (from your post) and you call them great judges of character!? Perhaps you don’t belong on a conservative site like this.

Why don't you go troll someplace else? Your repetitive posts, and your constant effort to misconstrue everybody else’s comments is getting tiresome.

"Fine. If you want to VOLUNTARILY hand over your hard-earned money to a power-mad scumbag who gets off by TORTURING ANY opponent (pro-freedom or Muslim) etc. you have a perfect right to make that choice. All I ask is this: don’t take my money for this purpose. Deal?"

If you can guarantee you won't take MY money and give it to the rabidly homicidal jihadist maniac who replaces Hosni you've got a deal.

To get them out of country? Maybe to Tel Aviv or Landstuhl?

“Amazing. Some people so much want to defend U.S. welfare for Hosni “I like to torture people” Mubarak that they will go to any lengths to rationalize his actions.”

That really isn’t the point. You should read the WikiLeaks Embassy Documents. Lot’s of marxist infiltration from the UN NGOs, unions, and an assortment of other leftist/marxist organizations have participated in this “revolution”. Then you throw in a good mix of radical islamists, spear-headed by The Muslim Brotherhood....well you get the picture.

You would think during the 30 years of US influence in Egypt a better alternative could have presented itself. But noooooo, we waited for Obama and associates to bring it to this level of chaos. We lost the good dialogue and direction...a missed opportunity for positive change.

No matter how this turns out..the USA and Israel will be the losers. The sphere of influence is over. Of course, all the players that perpetuated this fiasco got what they wanted and it was never about the people, Mubarak or democracy.

I hope I am wrong...but, I don’t think I am. History has a way of repeating itself if you don’t learn from your mistakes. Think Iran....

they are reporting the story in a way that protects obama and the side he chose. It's all about having obama's back with the MSM.

right on the money! This cannot be emphasized enough. The evil MSM is doing irreparable harm to our Republic.

Obama smiles at night, knowing that the MSM will play a big part in handing Egypt over to the Islamic radicals.

“WTF is “fairly grave” injuries but have now been released from the hospital?

Makes no sense.”

Maybe the hospital was worse than the injuries.

Holy Carp! Olaf Wiig was kidnapped with Steve Centanni in 2006. Talk about bad luck!

Re: I’m a little confused as to why they would have been released from hospital if their injuries are grave.

Really good medical care.

What do you expect when all of the western “journalists” are spewing ill-informed pro-Muslim Brotherhood propaganda.

Despite widespread protests, the majority of Egyptians cannot appreciate the Americans telling them what they believe and what they should do.

Fox included.

Maybe due to today's events they've adopted the motto, -Better a moving target than a sitting duck.

As soon as they can get rid of reporters, the sooner live fire exercises can begin.

This guy evidently doesn't mind dangerous assignments...I hope he recovers quickly.

So do I. Greg Palkot is fearless. He's also a reporter who is a true journalist in that he factually reports on what is happening, an "old-fashioned" sort. He and his photographer become our eyes and ears in places where others fear to tread.

I have a question for those who criticize him for being there and suggest that he deserved a beating because he's part of "the press": where would you get the news if the journalists in Egypt are prevented from communicating and the internet is shut down again?

"Fox decided early on to side with the Muslim Brotherhood."

I wasn't aware of this.

Where may I find some references that have lead you to this conclusion.

Thank you.
