Fox News’ Greg Palkot & Producer Hospitalized After Being Attacked While Covering Egypt Protests By Molly Stark Dean on February 3, 2011 1:20 PM
Fox News Channel foreign correspondent Greg Palkot and FNC producer Olaf Wiig have been hospitalized in Cairo, Egypt after being attacked by protesters. Palkot was beaten badly and Wiig may have a broken jaw.
This isn’t the first time Wiig has seen trouble on the job. In 2006, Wiig was held hostage by gunmen on the Gaza Strip.
John Roberts reported from London today on the attack on the Fox team:
They were forced to leave their position when a Molotov cocktail was thrown at it, a large fire erupted. They were forced to flee. They ran out and ran right into the pro Mubarak crowd and were severely beaten and had to be taken to the hospital, spent the night in the hospital. The extent of their injuries was fairly grave, however, they have been released from the hospital.
This adds to a growing number of attacks on reporters in Egypt. Roberts’ video report on the FNC attack is after the jump…
Oh well...I guess these ‘reporters’ better pick up a weapon, if they plan on reporting from a war zone..
One might infer from this that the Egyptian people aren’t fond of western folks. One might then further deduce from this that their newly formed government will reflect this. The new century is shaping up to be the last century.
From what I have read, it seems to be the supporters of the current government that has been attacking Americans.
But, just maybe if we were to send Mubarak just a few more billion dollars, the violence against Americans will cease.
In other news, ABC reported this morning that pro Mubarak supporters said some things to Christane Amanpour that just weren’t nice.
When you hang around near mad dogs you are likely to get bitten.
You know these networks and cable companies who do weather reports by sticking some poor rube out in 90 mile/hr winds, turbulence, hurricanes to prove a storm, and combustible political uprisings must certainly have a suicide clause in their contracts. Couldn’t a cell phone have worked from a local without the risk of US reporters? I know, I know, the
technology experienced a shut down for 48 hours or more.
A little less coverage of the chest banging occuring in Egypt might well have ended this thing days ago. As for CNN they were name calling the pro-side as “thugs” and “gangs”, which is likely the reason they got thumped by said thugs and gang.

Well, from what I have read here, Fox News hasn’t been much better than the other TV news reporters in reporting on the Muslim Brotherhood and what it stands for.
You’d think they’d be a little more open about that, especially since I can’t imagine that their Saudi patrons are any too fond of the Muslim Brotherhood or happy about this attempted coup.
First round for them is on me......
I don’t understand this. Back in the day you needed a reporter in the thick of things. Nowadays, it’s just silly. We get video from a number of sources. Having a talking head on the ground really adds nothing to the spectacle. Reporters are going to end up dead. They think they are a protected class, but they have yet to deal with unchecked Muslim rage like we are seeing right now in Egypt.
Journalists should consider not taking sides.
This is working out great for Obama, better than he could have planned. Israel had better have a plan for taking out 1000 M1A Abrams tanks and over 100 F16’s. Egypt is gone to the West.
more likely, they are just street thugs— we only have people like Anderson Cooper’s words who they were exactly— they probably come up and demand money or water and food and the press, being the swells they are, probably reply like snots, then get the snot beat out of them. Just my opinion,

Well at least they weren’t beheaded... That will probably be next!!
I’d chip in for a ticket to send Chrissy Matthews over to cover the unrest.
Anyone who goes into a war zone without a weapon is either clueless or out for their gain. Either way, they should stay home.
