How The Stupid Party Gets Its Name (for those who thought the 1099 healthcare vote was good thing)
Redstate ^ | Erickson

Today was another fine example of how the Republican Party gets labeled as the stupid party.

Senator Dick Durbin hinted two days ago that the Senate Democrats would be unified in their opposition to repeal Obamacare except for one or two. In other words, the GOP had the opportunity to get Democrats to jump ship.

But Democrats have signaled that they want to “fix” Obamacare, not repeal it. So the GOP gladly obliged. Without any obstruction, the GOP went along with the Democrats’ changes to the onerous 1099 provision.

The more we "fix" obamacare, the more it becomes palatable. Let it stay in it's current form, so people can see this monstrosity for what it is. This will give the courts leverage to strike down the whole thing.

They did vote to repeal. Mitch McConnell attached Obamacare repeal as an amendment to aviation regulation. It failed 47-51.

This is why I am a third party conservative, the hateful liberal rinos defile conservative principles and their numbers in the goop continue to grow, many democrats support them as they do their evil work against American citizens and destroy our nation.

It doesn’t matter what the Republicans do as long as the Rats own the Senate and White House. Repeal will not happen.

Removing this single provision won’t make the Beast any more or any less unconstitutional.

We can only hope the Supremes see it that way.

Yes but there was a separate vote to fix the “1099” issue which passed. The more it’s fixed, the less likely it will be repealed by congress or struck down by courts in the future.

Erick is dead on here...as usual. While I can forgive for this one change because it such a mass ice burden on busines and easy to fix, if they continue to tinker, the GOP is all but dead. Unfortunately, this is probably one of those slippery slope events that will lead idiots like Graham and Brown ideas to ‘fix’ more things with this bill. It has to be all or nothing.

Whether you agree with it or not, the GOP has been very upfront that their strategy is going to be to push for total repeal (unlikely as it may be at this time) while simultaneously tackling one piece at a time.

It’s going to take another couple of years for all of this to be resolved through the appeals courts, and it’s possible the Administration might get a stay in Vinson’s ruling, so nerfing the parts of the bill that take effect in the next couple of years might still be necessary for now, even if the whole bill eventually gets tossed once and for all.

Wrong. As long as the individual mandate is a part of it, it is unconstitutional and because there is not a separation clause in the law, it will stay as one no matter how many sideline items can be targeted. It is a game of bait and switch by the Dems to get the Pubbbies to focus on anything except getting rid of it altogether.

The left is despirate in trying to keep the individual mandate in place because without it, the whole thing falls apart.

I understand that. But Ann Archy didn’t know that they had already held a repeal vote and it failed. Two separate issues.

So in other words, the GOP should have kept the onerous and costly 1099 reporting requirements in force until SCOTUS rules on it - when businesses are already struggling - just to play politics at a level you would approve of, when they DON'T have the votes to override an Obama veto of a repeal.

Y'all make boatloads of sense here. Not.

Two years of filling out 1099s is much better than an eternity with Obamacare. Whether you like it or not, politics is a strategic game, and if we don’t play our cards right we use lose legislatively.

It has to be all or nothing.

So tell us where the GOP will get the 2/3rds majority to override an Obama veto of a repeal.

You all or nothing types need to try and make sense here.

Tell us again how the GOP will get a 2/3rds majority to override an Obama veto. Politics has to make sense to be effective, and you don't.

Do you own a business? Are you subject to that requirement?
