WELCOME BACK RACE FANS ~ WE'RE BACK ~ DAYTONA SPEEDWEEKS WHICH BEGINS THE 2011 NASCAR SEASON

The 33rd annual BUDWEISER SHOOTOUT
Saturday, February 12th - 8pm on Fox begins our race season with this non-points event.

The field will include:
• The 12 drivers that qualified for the 2010 Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup

• Past NASCAR Sprint Cup Series champions
• Past Budweiser Shootout champions
• Past Daytona 500 and Coke Zero 400 Powered By Coca-Cola champions
• NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Rookie of the Year drivers from 2001-2010 (New this year)

The race distance will continue to be 75 laps (187.5 miles) on the 2.5-mile tri-oval. The race will have two segments, of 25 and 50 laps. Both green- and yellow-flag laps will count.

Between segments, there will be a 10-minute pit stop at which time teams will pit and may elect to change tires, add fuel and make normal chassis adjustments.

Starting positions will be determined by a draw at the annual Budweiser Shootout Draw Party on Thursday night, Feb. 10, on the SPEED stage in the Midway, outside Turn 4. Televised on SPEED.
The Budweiser Shootout is scheduled for 8:00PM ET. Last years winner was Kevin Harvick.

***

Qualifying for the Daytona 500 is scheduled for Sunday Feb. 13th on Fox 1PM ET which determines the front row starting positions for the 500. Last year front row ~ Martin #5 and Earnhardt Jr. #88

***

The Gatorade Duels (60 laps each) will be held on Thursday February 17, 2011 2PM ET on SPEED - lineup is based on qualifying speeds -- odd number qualifiers will race in Duel #1 for the inside line in the 500 and even # Duel #2 for the outside line in the 500. (confused yet?) Last years winners Johnson, Duel #1 and Kahne, Duel #2.
Those not in the top 35 are qualified in as follows:
This leaves eight spots open to other drivers which are assigned like this: The top two drivers in each Gatorade Duel that are not already guaranteed a starting spot get into the Daytona 500.

The next three spots go to the fastest three qualifiers based on the single-car time trials from Sunday.

The final spot is guaranteed for a previous Sprint Cup Champion who was unable to qualify any other way. If there is no unqualified past champion then the 43rd spot goes to the next fastest qualifier based on speed from the single-car session.

The Duels are two 150-mile qualifying races that determine the starting lineup for the Daytona 500 from positions 5 through 43.

WCG, thanks for the ping!

Great looking opening thread! Lots of changes.

Seems like forever since Homestead....

You doing ok, down there? Cold - snow - ice, wow.

Saw they were doing rolling blackouts.....

If it makes ya feel any better, it's not too great here - cold. Last night's low was 28/29 with a lot of wind.

Take care, stay warm and be careful driving.

Thanks Mac - appreciate it :)

They say -8 tonight with wind chill and was just notified that the rolling blackouts are possible to start again tonight. :(

Problem out here is we are on well and if the pump doesn’t work there’s no water dripping and then the pipes will freeze, not to mention us too.

Snow predicted for tomorrow thru Friday noon. Then another cold front coming next Monday.

I want my global warming!! Where’s AG?

When they hit the fresh slug juice they go right up the track and into the wall. No one back there to block. So, am I good to go racing?

Nice Graphic! I hope you made it through the night? You losing power makes me wonder if you have a external hard drive for backup in case these power outages damage your PC? We have a occasional blackout when some drunk knocks down a utility pole or Mother Nature cuts a line. My Mac is pretty resilient but I still use a backup drive. It was 35 here last night with days in the high 50s and very little rain since Jan 4th...

Thanks for your concern, but no external hard drive - I should, but the money is not available - struggling just to pay propane bill. I was amazed that they won’t come out for less than half a tank which is $240.00 right now, last year $270.00. Thankfully, last month I begged and they let me pay half then and half in Feb. I had no idea then that I would need it so much right now. I can only imagine what electric will be.

In my kitchen right now, the windows on the INSIDE have ice. Leaking air I guess. This house always feels like there’s a draft because it has older windows.

Last night I had to run the little Vornado space heater (I love that dang thing) plus my electric throw in the bedroom. Tried to save propane by turning big heater down to 50.

Computer is running like a slug today, not sure why. Could be Firefox which is sometimes funky. Or, freezing temps on outside shortwave apparatus, or ??

I did write to the emergency manager in town yesterday, plus called my electric company when I was told by a friend that they did not have any rolling blackouts in town.

Oddly, and most probably coincidence, but after I called the blackouts stopped.

All aboard and thanks for the updated rules in the intro at the start of a great thread.

Info: we had new pricy windows put in last year, double pane, argon gas, yada-yada and we get ice inside btn the window and shade if there is enough moisture in the house & if the shade tightly covers the window.

Did they mention that HMS rented Charlotte Speedway today to practice pit stops? Two 5 cars, the 88 with Jr, the 48 with JJ and the 24 no mention of Martin or Gordon though.

Also, heard Larry Mc is off the team for SPEED

YAY

I really wish Spencer would get the boot too.

Probably missed it by now, will check in a minute.

Found no snow today in all my travels. Heard on the radio there were flurries in Llano, called son and he hadn’t seen any.

They keep promising though....

I didn’t hear them mention HMS but I may have missed it. It sounded like Larry Mac was moving on to another position, with a team perhaps?

We’ll start to climb after tonight, but get stuck in the 60s for about the next two weeks.

That is, if we survive the blizzard tonight. :)
