He is not the worst guy in the world, and is actually fair to conservatives quite frequently. And he ventures into dangerous zones all the time, even when weather catastrophes hit.
He didn’t deserve this.
I knew a bunch of them in the Balkans (Bosnia and Kosovo) in the nineties. They were mostly European, a few Aussies, hardly any Americans. I took my share of spooky walks (came under fire outside Bondsteel when it was just being built) and in the crazy seventies I was NYPD so I know a thing or two about it. To me it was part of my job at the moment. For some of these guys it was a drug, they didn’t feel alive unless they are out where the ice is razor thin.

In a case like this, though, it’s irresponsible to send Western journalists into a flashpoint where the almost inevitable endgame is a purge of infidels.
