COLUMBIA, Mo. -- A monster winter storm took aim at a third of the nation Monday, threatening to lay a potentially deadly path of heavy snow and ice from the Rockies to New England, followed by a wave of bitter, bone-rattling cold that could affect tens of millions of people.
Cities including St. Louis, Kansas City and Milwaukee could be hardest hit, with expected midweek snowfalls of up to 2 feet and drifts piled 5 to 10 feet. Even hardy Chicago could be in for its third-worst blizzard since record-keeping began.
"I wouldn't want to be on the road in open areas tomorrow night," said forecaster Tom Skilling of Chicago television station WGN. "I don't think I'd want to be driving in the city either. The fact is people die in these things. They skid off the road and go wandering around in whiteout conditions."
Warmer areas were not safe, either. The system could spawn tornadoes in parts of the South.

Praying that you don’t get anymore ice. Stay warm and safe!
A table out on the deck has two feet or more on top but underneath has turned into a cave and frozen snow now keeps snow from falling into the cave.
Squirrels and birds tell me they love it being all protected in there.
It’s almost like a window feeder as it’s open on this side.
Only when indoor cats get too excited with small animals so close, birds can eat unmolested.
I have a generator set, about 40 gals of gasoline and a gas fireplace.
A similar storm in Muncie Ind north of here in ‘05 caused power outages that lasted 5 days.
My neighbors can camp out in the basement, LOL
Think nothing of it. I did.
SW Chicago, are you getting hammered with this stuff?
Frickin thing is all the way down in MEXICO!!
A giant “straw” sucking moisture from the Gulf and sending straight down the throat of Chicago.
My micro-manager boss is having a fit that everyone will be working from home tomorrow (and possibly 2 days).
(No one puts in the hours she does, but, DAMMIT, they should!)
Must.

Thanks, I hope so, too! It’s nearly 4 and he’s not back and I haven’t heard from him since 2 when he got stuck in the snow for a short while. He only had an hour to go at that point, but I’m sure it’s very slow going now. Ugh.
I didn’t think my mail lady had come by, but she was here. The wind blew the footprints out of the snow. Miserable.
We rent an old farm and we have animals (coyotes & bears) that will eat them so they find snug spots and stay near the food and water. I think the girl, Smokey, has been spayed as there’s no kittens. Sooty is definitely a tom!
I’ll add postal workers and all others who have to be out in this for their job to my prayers. Also, the homeless and the elderly who don’t have anyone to check on them. God protect them all and keep them warm and safe.
HIGH WIND WARNING for Southern California....full-fledged blizzard from Oklahoma to Illinois
Accuweather Video:RE: The Blizzard:
I don’t dare whine about 66 degree temps with so much of our nation suffering under severe Gorebull warming.
The temp at 1 pm in Wino country was 65-66. Our wind is chugging along between 10 to 25 mph making the wind chill factor not that nice.
Thank God for Gorebull warming, or 1/3 of our country could be getting very cold again this winter.
TEOTWAWKI.
And a volcano blew in Japan...

And I thought I saw something about a mega typhoon hitting Australia...
I’m in a part of the country not affected by all this but have a friend in NE Kansas who’s been having a drought. I think it’s NE.
Anyone know if Kansas is getting snow?
My comp is being bad so graphics and video are hard or impossible to deal with. Trying to find out about Kansas but haven’t succeeded so far!
We’re supposed to get 12 inches or so here. Nothing here yet, but I checked accuweather. I’m just about to get nailed.
I take that back. Here we go.
They are saying this isn’t the worst though, I’m in Illinois, been snowing since about 1:30 and it’s not sticking, just blowing & causing white-out conditions.
Supposed to get worse & heavier overnite! Hang on for a wild ride!
4:00 pm, Champaign, Ill area.
We had blinding blowing snow about an hour ago, but now we are getting tiny ice pellets that have pasted the snow down. Still as windy, but no snow blowing. The little pellets don’t stick to anything and are not too bad to walk on. We may not have a blizzard if there is a crust of ice and no loose snow. Won’t feel too bad about that.
We had about 1/2 inch of similar pellets yesterday evening. Wasn’t slippery enough to bother my morning run much.
I see a downy woodpecker has discovered the suet. It’s been up for a couple of weeks, but only been visited by a Carolina wren or a few juncos.
I think there is a thread on that....Fred might have some comments...from down under.
It’s catching SE Kansas and north to KC...the usual SW to NE pattern...video on where the affected areas at post #330...if it will work for you.
