COLUMBIA, Mo. -- A monster winter storm took aim at a third of the nation Monday, threatening to lay a potentially deadly path of heavy snow and ice from the Rockies to New England, followed by a wave of bitter, bone-rattling cold that could affect tens of millions of people.
Cities including St. Louis, Kansas City and Milwaukee could be hardest hit, with expected midweek snowfalls of up to 2 feet and drifts piled 5 to 10 feet. Even hardy Chicago could be in for its third-worst blizzard since record-keeping began.
"I wouldn't want to be on the road in open areas tomorrow night," said forecaster Tom Skilling of Chicago television station WGN. "I don't think I'd want to be driving in the city either. The fact is people die in these things. They skid off the road and go wandering around in whiteout conditions."
Warmer areas were not safe, either. The system could spawn tornadoes in parts of the South.

We live just south of Joliet & we have a NO PARK on streets order anytime there is more than an inch of snow or cars will be towed.
I’m in SW burbs and I suspect I’ll be out clearing global warming before bed and again around 0400. Does that count?
If you look at the map linked at #113, the entire I-44 corridor is going to get thrashed.
The weather service has us back down to “trace” amounts of ice so it looks again like we’ll escape but I’m not draining my tub and deep sink quite yet!
Good idea on a salt water solution; I’ll give that a go next time and see how it works.
I’m thinking of everyone out there in the path of this storm. Please post pics. as you’re able!
We’ve already had some suspicious “ticking” sounds on the windows so we left it.
WLS just referenced Tom Skilling’s current models. Tom says this one could deliver up to 32 inches of snow in the South burbs.
Hope ComEd can keep me lit as my genny is in the shop.
If warmer than average weather is proof of global warming, and colder than average weather is proof of global warming, what circumstances could we say proves that the weather currently being experienced is not global warming? For the warmists it’s a tails we win, heads you lose situation.
I can’t. I don’t know how. I’m working on figuring that out.
If someone could help in that area, I’d be much obliged. I can provide the links to the images, but saving them for posterity is another matter.
That’s NOT good.
Thanks. Looks like their forecast is opposite of what I heard. I-40 east of OKC isn’t looking good either. I drove it several days after the last storm. There were still quite a few big tricks littering the roadside.
It’s still ticking. Trying to call Hubby as he got a service call in the city. He’ll get stuck there. *sigh*
If a butterfly flaps it’s wings in China, and a severe thunderstorm strikes Kansas, it’s proof of Global Warming. That’s about how deep their science is.
I know we're not expecting ice, but I still worry about power, I breed dogs & have puppies right now, where the heck would I go with them & us????
We're in the southern part of Will County. Skilling is channel 9, right?
I sent mr. mm off with our cot and a sleeping bag and pillow packed in the car.
It looks like he’ll make it home tonight, but I don’t think he’s going to be making it in tomorrow, no matter how much he says he’s got an important meeting.
Gotta go clear out some global warming.
Channel 9, si.
Yours sounds like mine. He’s the only one answering service calls. Everyone else stayed home. Just like the last time and the storm before that.
Here in Manhattan we’ve had two good snowfalls this season. I’d like another, but I think this time we’re just going to get a trace of snow and maybe a little ice.
prayers for all my cyber friends to be safe. Stay in & warm. Dont shovel needlessly. protect the pets. Feed the birds. Thank God for shelter, be in a palace or very humble abode.
This is a tough time of year for you two, it seems. I think we’re up to six inches now. The temperature has also gone up a degree to 15.
