Israel shocked by Obama's "betrayal" of Mubarak

If Egypt's President Hosni Mubarak is toppled, Israel will lose one of its very few friends in a hostile neighborhood and President Barack Obama will bear a large share of the blame, Israeli pundits said on Monday.

Political commentators expressed shock at how the United States as well as its major European allies appeared to be ready to dump a staunch strategic ally of three decades, simply to conform to the current ideology of political correctness.

[snip]

One comment by Aviad Pohoryles in the daily Maariv was entitled "A Bullet in the Back from Uncle Sam." It accused Obama and his Secretary of State Hillary Clinton of pursuing a naive, smug, and insular diplomacy heedless of the risks.

Who is advising them, he asked, "to fuel the mob raging in the streets of Egypt and to demand the head of the person who five minutes ago was the bold ally of the president ... an almost lone voice of sanity in a Middle East?"

[snip]

"Jordan and Saudi Arabia see the reactions in the West, how everyone is abandoning Mubarak, and this will have very serious implications,"

[snip]

"The question is, do we think Obama is reliable or not," said an Israeli official, who declined to be named.

"Right now it doesn't look so. That is a question resonating across the region not just in Israel."

Writing in Haaretz, Ari Shavit said Obama had betrayed "a moderate Egyptian president who remained loyal to the United States, promoted stability and encouraged moderation."

To win popular Arab opinion, Obama was risking America's status as a superpower and reliable ally.

"Throughout Asia, Africa and South America, leaders are now looking at what is going on between Washington and Cairo. Everyone grasps the message: "America's word is worthless ... America has lost it."

“Democratic rights” in an islamite’s eyes is the ability to kill infidels with impunity.

Israel could retaliate by publishing Obama’s historical details. Every world leader with access to their intelligence service knows details of Obama’s life.

It’s only the American people who are intentionally left in the dark.

"I’m not all that sure why the people of Cairo should not have the same desires for freedom as people in America."

When was the last time that you saw an angry muslim crowd with Freedom on their minds? Have you seen even one sign that promotes Freedom or Liberty at any of the islamic protests in England? Therein lies your answer.

At the age of 82 Mubarak’s days are numbered even if he were to survive these protests.

I really do not believe that is our CURRENT problem.

Over the last ten years the US has worked and spilled blood to bring democracy to the people of Iraq and Afghanistan. In addition, we recently helped bring elections to the “Palestine.”

The people of Egypt now want those same freedoms.

We are in a tough spot and the good news is that a large segment of the protesters in Cairo and Alex are non radicalized Muslims of the professional class.

What ME government is led by someone in his 40s? Someone @ 50?

Somewhere today, I read that ‘the people’ have given the army in Egypt until Friday. February 4th commemorates the establishment of the PLO. On February 1st, Khomeni returned to Iran.

Dates and numbers matter. The 1928 (Khalifa) movement started, after the Ottomans fell in 1923, in March of 1928. There are some accounts that have Ali, the 4th Caliph (last of the ‘Rightly-Guided’ and the source of the split between Sunni & Shia) being murdered in 661 on January 24. (This date is disputed). However, that Tunisian man performed self-immolation on Dec. 17th, 2010—Ashura having been on Dec. 16th in 2010. (Shah’sse, wah’sse) (Ashura is the holiday that men & boys dress in white and parade through the streets cutting themselves up).

Westerners do not think like ME people; hence the term ‘Occident.’ This is not to dispute the torture, poverty or backward way of life many lead or are forced into there in the ME. But, their oral traditions, in spite of any Westernized, technological education some may have, are very strong, and heavy with the quoting of Quranic verse and commemoration of important dates. Whether coincidence, on purpose, and most assuredly performed by God’s Hand, the dates these things occur on are themselves something to stick in the backs of our minds; surely, the ‘wizards of the airwaves’ on TV have no clue at best and are compromised—no doubt.

Meanwhile, we are being deluged with Global Warming, along with other snow jobs.

Obviously the US has never developed a long term plan for Egypt and have only dumped two billion dollars a year used to prop-up Mubarak.

We should not be involved in the decisions of people in other countries.

We have caused the overthrow of Suhahrto, the Shah of Iran, and numerous other leaders trying to bring to other countries what we thought would be good for them. No wonder they hate us.

An interesting proposition.

Was there any discussion of Barry's boyhood in the Wikileaks?

“We should not be involved in the decisions of people in other countries.”

We put the Shah in power as well as Suhahrto and we have propped up Mubarak for 30 years. So yes, we made political decisions for the peole if those countries for years.
