The absence of a public explanation for such an unprecedented meeting is disturbing. One poster has mooted that the administration is without a clue and scared witless about developments in the Middle East. That is probably true, but it might not be the reason, or the only reason, for this unprecedented meeting.

It might be that Clinton will be giving marching orders to the State Department not to reduce anything to e-mails and two conduct business only orally. This would be a very dangerous modus operandi.

It might be that this presages and even more leftward bent in American foreign policy which the administration wants to conceal for a while.

Whatever the reason, I want congressional oversight and I want hearings both public and en camera to force this administration with its questionable loyalties to the ideal of the United States of America to be held to account.

It would seem from the timing that this has been
in the works for some time, how else can these
people expect to attend in time or is this a cyber
meeting? Do they expect other embassies to come
under siege?
Unusual to say the least.

Ithink once again, we fail to step back, and look at the facts of this administration.

From the beginning, an Hillary Clinton is the master of this, whenever there is any kind of crisis, they form the appearance that they’re doing something, when in factthey’re doing nothing.

Bringing in all the ambassadors, surely at millions of dollars expense, is for show pure and simple. In this day and age, youcan convey a meeting via satellite whereby everyone is there.....

But no, Clinton wants us to think that they’re engaging in some hard boiled thinking.

When you have an administration that has no foundation, you get this muck.

They have no clue what to do, but for sure anything that can be gleaned from this politically will be done.

CLinton has got to be the worst SOS in my life time, or one of them.

Wonder what Kissinger has to say about all this.

If that's what she wants, why wouldn't she put out that directive (i.e. one phone call at a time, it would take 500 minutes (or less if she divided up the work). If she puts out a directive like that in front of 500 people, it is not as effective nor as secure.

Hmmm, wonder if they're planning a reaction strategy for when Isreal says they can't wait for Odumbo anymore and they're going to take matters into their own hands.

NB, love all your post...

It would be a schadenfruede moment if we learn in the future that they have been on the Phone with Cheney and Bush.

My guess is they thought they could go forward with a domestic agenda, move away from Israel and appease the Muslim word, and their plans have failed and they have no plan "B".

I am sure, given the logistics involved, that the meeting was planned well before the Egyptian crisis. I suspect that it is the Wikileaks issue. But there is also an idea that has been circulating around the State Department even when I finished working there 10 years ago, i.e., a Quadriennal Review of foreign policy similar to what DOD does.

I am sure that the State Department knows that cuts are on the way and that getting more resources from Congress is going to be problematic. They have to have a party line and strategy to deal with the looming battle ahead with Congress.

Alternatively, Hillary, after consultation with Eleanor Roosevelt and Alexander Haig, will announce “I’m in charge here.”

Sage advice, my friend.

This administration simply cannot be trusted to represent America's best interests. Therefore, there must be oversight.
