WASHINGTON (AP) -- The government is telling half of the U.S. population to drastically cut their daily salt intake.
That's the advice to consumers - and the food industry - as the government issues new dietary guidelines, which are the recommendations behind the popular food pyramid.
For the first time, the Agriculture and Health and Human Services departments, which issue the guidelines every five years, are telling people who are 51 and older, all African-Americans and anyone suffering from hypertension, diabetes or chronic kidney disease to reduce daily sodium intake to little more than half a teaspoon.

Leave us alone , government.
Abolish the EPA, FCC,FDA for starters.
Freedom = capitalism = prosperity.
Socialism = government control = starvation = oppression = slavery.
Running our lives. Its not like government bureaucrats don’t have anything better to do with their time!
Nanny State ping!
My vet recommended more after they did blood tests in the hospital after my accident. She wasn't too worried about if my remaining kidney could handle it. She was worried that my sodium level was so low.

Please, LORD - get the government out of:
My shower
My toilet
My health care
My Salt Shaker
My fast-foot restaurants
My grocery basket
My retirement funds
My children’s education
My gas tank
My lawnmower
My ATV
and my WALLET!!!!
You visit a vet instead of a medical doctor???
Cat fight Cat fight
Well, Now that health care is provided for “free”, courtesy of Uncle Sam, you better DO what he TELLS you to do, or ELSE.
Don’t agree with that? Then ABOLISH, REPEAL, DEFUND, and STOP the MONSTROSITY of OBAMACARE!!!!
Americans advising Govt to stick their heads up their a**es.
Scouts Out! Cavalry Ho!
Time to go buy more salt.
How did one miss, My toilet?
I say that in jest, but the MDs that took care of me after my accident did a great job, and I respect them. Just not so much that I worship them.
Besides, I have more respect for vets, they work with multiple species.

why not? it’s cheaper. I’ve been threatening to get my prescriptions from my vet for years. They give my dog amoxacillin and that’s what I need for a sinus infection!
Hmmm...
What else did your vet recommend?
Hmmmm! What are they telling the other half...........
It will flat dog wear you out. My sodium level went low after the doc put me on the hct crap. I don’t see that doc anymore.
Isn’t that the job of the medical profession instead of government. Will salt now become available only by prescription?
Woof!
yes....salt is my baby...anything salty...pickles..olives....etc....I guess I’ll have to store up some more...
