As part of an initiative to protect children from sexual predators, including those who travel overseas, special US agents operating in South East Asia have brought more than 80 alleged child sex tourists back to America to face justice.
Sihanoukville looks like paradise, or at least a decent, low-rent version. Golden beaches, swaying palm trees, cheap alcohol and shimmering sea.
Retired American pharmacist Ronald Adams had come here for the good life - setting up a beachside cafe. But one morning last February Adams' personal vision of paradise was shattered, when officers from the Cambodian National Police raided his apartment.
They found a collection of sex aids, child pornography on DVDs and a variety of illegal drugs. Adams was accused of drugging and raping a 12-year-old girl.

But don't worry...
Soon, they will follow you everywhere and enforce US Law on you and especially deprive you of your money.
The Police State is just ramping up and needs to have a good reason to put their jackboots on your neck even when you're outside of the country.
It means you are effectively owned by the U.S. government.
It's a crime to even hold a gun in Japan.
This way, there be dragons.
I think that both countries probably have some sort of relationship. Maybe a treaty that both countries entered into. It’s not one sided.
Damn good point and worth repeating.
From the Bill of Rights, Amendment VI (emphasis added): "In all criminal prosecutions, the accused shall enjoy the right to a speedy and public trial, by an impartial jury of the State and district wherein the crime shall have been committed, which district shall have been previously ascertained by law, and to be informed of the nature and cause of the accusation; to be confronted with the witnesses against him; to have compulsory process for obtaining witnesses in his favor, and to have the Assistance of Counsel for his defence."
How do they reconcile what they are doing with the Eighth Amendment?
It's a crime to even hold a gun in Japan.
Excellent point. Maybe.
I really don't know if this pedophile hunting falls within the realm of treaties we have with other countries. Treaties regarding certain crimes and with extradition.
The ultimate crime.
Ping me when they have tagged and bagged Barney Frank.
I like the question but I haven't an answer. My reaction to the news article was to be glad the pedophiles will be prosecuted but to be worried at the process.
You'll grow old waiting for that ping.
Living proof that it's ultimately about control of all Americans, no matter where they live or go.
When I was born I was a citizen, apparently now I am a subject.
I wonder if they will be dusting off Dred Scott to claim world-wide jurisdiction/ownership?
Does that include 18 year old high school girls having sex with their 17 year old boyfriends?
Does an eighteen year old girl having sex with her seventeen year old boyfriend fit the profile and definition of a pedophile? So, I take it you have sympathies toward pedophiles?
More to the point, what do we say to foreign countries when they want to seize people from there who do things over here that they don't like? Will we cooperate with Saudi Arabia in the arrest and extradition of Muslims who convert to Christianity? Will we extradite people who "insult Islam"? This is a BAD precedent to be allowing, regardless of good intentions.
So a US citizen can be prosecuted for an action that would be totally legal in the country where it occurred if it was performed by a non-US-citizen. There are counties which have age-of-consent being below 18.
Oftentimes, US courts have jurisdiction over US Citizens. There’s president there with income tax cases.

Yes as well as immigrated aliens (LAPR) according to the law. So does that mean that non-immigrated aliens and illegal aliens ar not subject to the jurisdiction of the US when abroad like US citizens and LAPR’s? So how can their children born in the US be citizens if their parents are not fully subject to US jurisdiction?
Personally, I don't like it. I'd like to see Cambodia take care of him their own way.
“..be glad the pedophiles will be prosecuted but to be worried at the process.”
Agreed.
