Egyptians armed with sticks and razors have formed vigilante groups to defend their homes from looters after police disappeared from the streets following days of violent protests.
"There is no police to be found anywhere," said Ghadeer, 23, from an upscale neighbourhood. "Doormen and young boys from their neighbourhoods are standing outside holding sticks, razors and other weapons to prevent people from coming in."

I don’t give a damn if Egypt tears itself to pieces. So long as the American Navy and Marines control the Suez Canal. Might also be a good time for Israel to declare the Camp David accords null and void, since the Egyptian Gov’t no longer exists, and reclaim the Sinai as an “emergency buffer zone.”
Ah the joys of living in an unarmed society/S
Someone needs to explain this to REDWOOD99. He thinks they are freedom fighters seeking democracy for crying out loud.
I agree with you. At first I had sympathy for the rioters, but the more I looked at the situation and thought about it, the more I realized how bad it would be if they took control.
I am all for the Egyptian military crushing and killing as many of these street thugs as possible and then organizing to go after Iran.
My thoughts exactly. Haven’t the average citizens in Egypt any fire arms to protect themselves?!?

Good observation.
Cuba comes to mind...and Castro.
Reuters needs to check definition of vigilante
In Egypt as in Boston, the police are cowards and thugs. The people in Eqypt are better off with a militia then relying on the police for protection since all they will get from the police are extortion and a bullet to the back of the head.
“”are standing outside holding sticks, razors and other weapons to prevent people from coming in.””
Other weapons? Are the citizens of Egypt not allowed to own guns? Do all Muslim countries have gun control?
Except for terrorists maybe?
Nicaragua
“Out best friend in the Islamic ME is the Egyptian Army...”
The little that I have heard, the people on the streets hate the police (they are thugs). They cheered when the army came to replace the police. Probably not so much that “the army is with the people” as in joining the protestors, but are more even-handed in protecting the people.
Of course when you have personnel carriers and heavy gear, you are a lot less likely to shoot the kid throwing a rock than perhaps the lightly protect police are. The army is probably better trained too.
I hope that this looting and bad stuff is just in the void from where the police have fled and the army has yet to move in to control the area.
Um..no?
Try upgrading. Works wonders for every other forum on the net.
Reuters doesn't have a Newspeak term for "Individual protecting their own life and property". The concept has been erased.

Issa should start his investigations with Code Pink, Ayers, etc...
I think it is a mix of both.
Egypt = 2011 = Iran =1979.
Barak Obama = 2011 = Jimmy Carter 1979.
