Egyptians armed with sticks and razors have formed vigilante groups to defend their homes from looters after police disappeared from the streets following days of violent protests.

"There is no police to be found anywhere," said Ghadeer, 23, from an upscale neighbourhood. "Doormen and young boys from their neighbourhoods are standing outside holding sticks, razors and other weapons to prevent people from coming in."

This is the beginning of the end, and a disaster for American foreign policy.

Spoke with retired very senior CIA Exec last evening. His words "Of course the Muslim Brotherhood is behind all this. They are the only ones organized or funded. It's as if we bet all our life savings on a horse that just dropped dead in the backstraight."

More follows.

There is some sympathy here on FR for the insurgents. This is idiocy.

They are not “democracy” seekers. They are being run by radical Islamists. The $ here come from Iran. The Muslim Brotherhood is the only organized opposition.

Ever since Carter, we have given Egypt aprox 3 billion $ a year. If Mubarak falls, (and with police leaving, this may be final straw,) we lose our best Islamic friend in ME. All the anti-Soviet opns in Afghanistan and later the anti-Talibanopns staged out of Cairo West AFB.

A “new” Egypt will be as anti-US as Iran, if not worse. These are the people who killed Sadat. This is not about freedom. This is all about anti-West Islamic dominance.

I’m not sure how organized this is. I’m sure the Muslim Brotherhood would like to take credit for it. The problem is that it’s a grass roots movement, and organizers don’t have much control over a grass roots movement.

The Muslim Brotherhood was helped, organized and funded
by CODE PINK, Bill Ayers, Dohrn, and the usual suspects.

So 1600 is aware of this, condones this, funds this,
and is behind every lever of this.

Yup.

Mubarak also screwed up by killing the Internet. The Muslim Brotherhood has its own lines of communication. All he did is cut off the regular people from each other. Stupid.

The real question is how infiltrated is the Egyptian military by the Muslim Brotherhood? Anyone know?

BTW, in 1979, all the MSM and “freedom lovers” told us that the overthrow of the Shah of Iran was great and the Grand Ayatollah Khomeini would be a great friend of the US because he had lived in Paris, etc.

MB26 - Thanks for getting me straight on this. I’ve been telling myself that this doesn’t look good. All the while, I’m watching the “media” and others saying how wonderful it is that this is happening. I thought that I was missing something.

One big difference: At least in my neighborhood, we wouldn’t be defending our homes with sticks and razors.

Try military grade (legal) firearms. I’m in Texas, after all.

Sure it would be the same in most states that aren’t run by anti-gun zealots...

AMMAN, Jordan (AP) - The leader of Jordan’s powerful Muslim Brotherhood warned Saturday that unrest in Egypt will spread across the Mideast and Arabs will topple leaders allied with the United States.

“The Americans and (President Barack) Obama must be losing sleep over the popular revolt in Egypt,” he said. “Now, Obama must understand that the people have woken up and are ready to unseat the tyrant leaders who remained in power because of U.S. backing.”

Saeed did not specifically name King Abdullah. But he said Jordan’s prime minister “must draw lessons from Tunisia and Egypt and must swiftly implement political reforms.”

“We tell the Americans ‘enough is enough’,” he said.

Is this that 3am phone call?

Looks like Hillery isn’t doing such a good job at the State Department, and OhlyO certainly is doing a brilliant job at screwing everything up.

They were able penetrate the military deep enough to kill Sadat. If we know how much power the military has I'm the sure MB were astute enough to prepare for this type of situation by putting significant assets in place in the hierarchy of the military.

” They are the only ones organized or funded”

What about Soro’s/Brezinski/Kissinger? Their guy Mohamed El Baradei was sent over there. El Baradei is hooked up with Soros/Brezinski through the International Crisis Group. They condemned Mubarak right away by calls for the government to stop using violence against the protesters. Soro’s group was also involved in the “red” color revolution in Thailand. El creepo is also involved in the nuclear proliferation treaty with obama. Kissinger said obama has a chance to bring in a new world order just last year.

grass roots movement implies a spontaneous thing. The muslim brotherhood has been around for a very long time and has been under subjugation in many arab countries, like Syria and Egypt for example. Hama massacre in syria happened because the brotherhood attempted a coup. In egypt they killed Sadat and mubarak has banned them from government and jailed their leaders and done everything to disrupt their influence. I believe the ban was lifted in 2007 from them participating. The only people i really feel bad for over there are coptic christians, seems like things will end up going from bad to worse for them.

It's as if we bet all our life savings on a horse that just dropped dead in the backstraight.

Mubarack - like all authoritarians except Pinochet - was always doomed to implode in some ugly way. The only surprise was the exact time it was going to happen.
