A new report by the Government Accountability Office states that individuals using public lands along the border face an increasing risk of crossing paths with armed individuals who are involved in illegal immigration and drug trafficking.
According to the report, “Some remote federal lands along the U.S. border are often used to smuggle drugs or humans into the country. According to officials, such illegal activities can damage sensitive wildlife habitat and threaten public safety.”
“Hunters, hikers, and other members of the public, as well as agency employees, have been shot, shot at, kidnapped, and threatened with violence.”
The GAO interviewed law enforcement officials and land management officials while developing the report.

The mexicans are not willing to easily give up their newly won territory. Are any formerly American towns behind those lines or is it ONLY "public lands?"
Oh, by the way... we're paying for the upkeep of that territory. Such a deal for the occupying forces, eh?
IOW, the American officials offered a meek, token statement of protest in response to the takeover of former sovereign territory by mexican nationals.
