WASHINGTON -- If Michele Bachmann made any friends this week, they weren't among the Republican leaders in the House.
They saw their official rebuttal to President Obama's State of the Union speech hijacked by a national press corps more interested in what the telegenic Minnesota Republican had to say.
This wasn't the first time GOP leaders have found themselves in Bachmann's growing national shadow.

My “fetish” has nothing to do with where they are at on the totem pole. It has to do with where they are at when it comes to the constitution and conservatism. That is the only factor that matters. Sure, I would love it if we had a gubner or a general who was a proven, rock-ribbed conservative step up to the plate. So far, nothing of the sort has emerged. We have a gaggle of gubners with very mixed records.
Where do you draw the line in the tradeoff between ideal experience and ideal conservatism? If I was a typical republican, I could easily make the argument that Mitt, with his business resume, governorship, Olympics head, telegenic looks, etc etc was “the most qualified”. If I wanted a more intense record in politics, Huckabee was Lt. Gubner, before a 10 year stint as the real gubner, not to mention he’s an ordained minister and ran a competitive race for prez nomination.
Instead, I’m a conservative. I couldn’t care less about these guys’ experience governing, because the both had liberal streaks a mile wide, not to mention some of the idiotic things they said when running in 08. The same can be said for the rest of the “big names”, in some degree or another.
The media mostly detest conservatives, so naturally they’re busy trying to make the GOP look like a clown show. Whether by design or effect, that makes it more likely for RINO-boy Romney, the Republican candidate most acceptable to them, to waltz in looking statesmanlike. And, should Romney stumble, Huckleberry is the media’s second choice, their firewall. This only underscores the need for conservatives to unite around a candidate of our own, lest we end up too divided to prevail.

To be brutally honest, I don't care WHICH conservative wins the nomination, I simply hope that one does.

Ryan's rebuttal was pretty good, but Bachmann's was better because she clearly and concisely described our economic problems.
I would prefer to see a discussion of the differences between the speeches, rather than a blanket statement that the press corps was more interested in Bachmann. The press corps reporting was superficial; maybe there would be more substance in the journals of Great Britain.

Yes, the press reporting on itself again, as if they are the reality. And sticking Meghan McCain in there to cast a few junior-high-school aspersions. They only end up revealing their own starstruck obsessions.
My gut feeling is both won't run simultaneously. One will likely step aside for the other, for an early consolidation of the Tea Party vote. I could be wrong, but I just don't imagine a scenario in which Sarah and Michele compete for -- and thus split -- conservative votes in the primary.

I’d like to hear Paul Ryan’s impression of Michele’s speech following his. My guess is that he appreciated the backup. She didn’t contradict what Ryan said whatsoever. Rather, she edified it.
