Three sources close to Republican Rep. Mike Pence of Indiana tell CNN they are told he will announce he is not running for president in 2012 and will instead begin exploring a run for governor.
These sources say he has been flattered by the efforts to nudge him into the GOP presidential race but, as one of the sources put it, "he is a realist and kept coming back to questions about the fund-raising." The second source said some around Pence also have reminded him of the difficulty of mounting a presidential campaign from the House, and noted that, at age 51, he would have a better platform to explore a presidential run if he first was elected governor.

You know who it's going to be.
Good for him, he will be a fine Governor.
Can we hope that Daniels would primary Lugar?
DeMint is the only viable one in the bunch, pissant, and it's not clear at all that he's even interested.
This ABBP campaign of yours is getting tired, trotting out complete neophytes and touting them in some spiteful attempt at creating buzz for anyone other than Palin.
Good luck, you've done such a fine job for Duncan Hunter and the Falcon Party.
Which is why the’ll groom him. He’s a loser from the word go, much like the candidate groomed by the establishment in 2008.
This is a good call on Pence’s part. This is right thinking.
There are about 2 dozen wannabes on the GOP side that have been sending up trial balloons.
We will see at least a dozen starters and maybe even closer to 18. Once the first candidate announces, others will jump in within a few weeks.
A few will try to enter later. Many will be forced out by Super Tuesday, if not before, due to a lack of campaign cash.
Not long after Super Tuesday, we will probably see a couple of candidates who are way ahead, and 2-3 hangers-on.
CNN Anchor Wolf Blitzer asked DeMint, "Are you going to run for the Republican presidential nomination?"
DeMint responded, "No, no I'm not."
He could’ve been the man. Your nation calls you, answer the call please.
Yep, ‘ol Pissy is a parody of himself - has no foot in reality.
At times I almost feel sorry for him. Almost.
But I’m sure he wouldn’t turn down Sarah’s offer of VP.
I’m glad he saw the Northern Lights and made way for Palin...
That’s why he’s having all his advisers leaking he’s contemplating it.
So DeMint lied to Blitzer?
Daniels ran (and won) his 2nd term in 2008. There will be a new governor election in 2012 just right for Pence.
Some say running from the House is a bad idea. In a regular kind of election cycle where everything is stable, I’d agree, but not this time where there’s economic and political upheaval, and we have huge challenges to face.
Lincoln, for example, was never anything more than a member of congress before becoming POTUS, taking the helm during one of the greatest crisies we’ve ever had.
Additionally, I wonder how much experience one really needs when the task at hand is not to manage the behemoth of the centralized administrative state, but to dismantle and castrate it. And of course the presidency depends on a decent cabinet and other kinds of advisors to help make the decisions, and so it could be quite doable for Pence.
I really wish he would reconsider. His nation is calling because it needs a man like him.
Hey, Mensa, in this imaginary “ABBP” campaign I’m running, have you seen me encouraging Huck? Mitt? Tpaw? Huntsman? Rudy? Perry? Newt? Johnson? Paul?
You cultists need to understand that MANY FREEPERs and other conservative Americans do not want Palin, because she is NOT a conservative. Therefore, we promote those who are. Not ABBP ABBP is full of RINOs by definition.
Damn. I was pulling for Pence and/or Palin. If we lose in 2012, 2016 is shaping up to be where the real talent will slug it out- McDonnell, Pence, and Christie.
Just like Palin lied when she said she’d run if no one else would?
I’m sorry that Pence in not running for POTUS but happy that he’ll likely be the next governor of Indiana.
Or a strong VP candidate.
At age 52 he’s got a lot of future ahead of him.
