Trying to head Mike Lee (UT)off at the pass so he doesn’t make a big deal out of raising the debt ceiling by filibustering.

The GOP gave the Dems a chance to save face. This is really about preserving the filibuster for Dems when the Republicans take over the Senate in 2012.

So, there is utterly no agreement here.

This isn’t that bad. Now with the GOP controlling the House, all crappy bills should be stopped (fingers crossed). Plus it’s a gentleman’s agreement which means it’s basically unenforceable, the same way the Russians view treaties with the U.S.

I see this as a win...
nothing will happen we don't want anyway since we own the house.
BUT
Since we have about a 100% chance of taking the Senate in 2012... this means these rules will work in our favor come 2012.
WIN for us.
To: NormsRevenge
It also included support of a resolution, to be voted on later in the day, to end the practice of one senator being able to secretly block votes and a rules change that would slash by a third the number of presidential appointments that need Senate approval. Republican Senators think this is a good idea? We've yet again been sold out by RINO's.

Yeah, it’s a win, all right. A big win for the Dems and their RINO enablers.

OK,then at the first chance the GOP should offer an amendment to repeal Obamacare and if it isn't accepted the deal is OFF!

How about just slashing presidential appointments by one third, period. The constitution lets the prez appoint ambassadors, judges, his own staff, and the original cabinet departments. War, Treasury, Justice and Interior. That ought to be enough. No more czars and such. The modern presidency is ridiculously bloated.

It sounds like we gave the Dems a graceful exit from their plan. They know all too well that the Senate will flip in 2012 and the last thing they want are rules that favor the majority.
