Make it a “progressive tax”. Tax the top 26 people in the state an additional $1Bil. Problem solved.

It appears that California will be the first state to receive the Darwin award.

Stupid people do stupid things, including yours truly.

Collecting more money to “close the budget” gap will ensure the gap is never closed.

Does the electorate in California believe that their state politicians are better than the politicians in Illinois? Remember, the Illinois Sate legislature, in a lame duck session, voted a two per cent increase in both individual and corporate income taxes while simultaneously increasing state expenditures two per cent.

Does the electorate in California believe that their state politicians are better than Federal Politicians? A study conducted last year showed for every additional tax dollar collected Federal Expenditures went up $1.25.

In both cases spending went up as income was increased. So, adding more money to correct a budget problem will only exacerbate the problem - not cure it.

Want to solve a budget problem at all levels - stop spending. The individual does this why can’t the state and Federal governments do likewise?

Forget Mexico, we’re going to need a fence along the California border.

I’m a little confused by this article. What exactly was the question asked? Was it, “Do you support a special election on the tax measure proposed by Governor Brown?” Or was it, “Do you support Governor Brown’s proposed tax measure?” Did they spin the question such that it sounds like these are new taxes, or did they make it sound like these are extensions of “temporary” tax increases? Subtle nuances like this can shift opinions drastically.

When our new Guv, Jerry Brown, comes knocking, grasping for your wallet or purse,  as you know he soon will, just try hard to remember having read THIS little piece of wisdom...

Opinion in Brief

"Politics being what it is, we are sure to hear all sorts of doomsday rhetoric at the thought of cutbacks in government spending. The poor will be starving in the streets, to hear the politicians and the media tell it.

But the amount of money it would take to keep the poor from starving in the streets is chump change compared to how much it would take to keep on feeding unions, subsidized businesses and other special interests who are robbing the taxpayers blind. Letting armies of government employees retire in their fifties, to live for decades on pensions larger than they were making when they were working, costs a lot more than keeping the poor from starving in the streets. .

... Bankruptcy says: 'We just don't have the money.' ... Bailouts say: 'Give the taxpayers a little rhetoric, and a little smoke and mirrors with the book-keeping, and we can keep the party rolling.'

One of the political games that is played during a budget crisis is to cut back on essential services like police departments and fire departments, in order to blackmail the public into accepting higher tax rates.  Often, a lot more money could be saved by getting rid of runaway pension contracts with public sector unions.  Bankruptcy can do that.  Bailouts cannot." --economist Thomas Sowell
