TALLAHASSEE Hoping to fend off a rash of overdoses in Florida during the upcoming spring break, Attorney General Pam Bondi has outlawed a synthetic drug cocktail masquerading as "bath salts" that apparently gives users super-human strength and has similar effects to LSD, heroin and cocaine.
Bondi issued an emergency order Wednesday banning the drug -- Methylenedioxypyrovalerone or MDPV -- after Bay County Sheriff Frank McKeithen brought the dangerous concoction to her attention Friday.
"I frankly had a nightmare last night that someone was going to overdose on this and we hadn't done anything," she said.
Unlike real bath salts, sold as a means to relax and unwind, this product "makes you think you are seeing monsters and makes you think you can fly," Bondi told reporters.

Shhhhhhhh!
Be quiet, breathe gently, that way you can get the drop on 'em....
(/s, as if)
They don't want to stop us from breathing, they want to require us to exercise until we look like we graduated from the Bergen-Belsen diet plan, and then tax us for the CO2 emissions.
Maybe something in their bathwater?
Years later she confided in my dad that that was the best advice she ever received.
Oh yeah, like a piece of paper with writing on it will stop anyone.
Said the same thing about my brother before he turned his life around. I was ready to call the cops for my mother, but something happened that turned him around. We are all grateful for it, but she never wanted to admit that she knew it would be better for him to be incarcerated than dead.
This bath salts thing is dumb, and I am quite irritated by my AG for pulling this unilateral crap.
Thank you Governor Quixote!

Did you get better?
>> “outlawing common items that hammerheads are using as if they were drugs is another entirely.” <<
.
Remember “Mellow Yellow?”
.
I had never heard of this until the press pounced on this....I wonder how many idiot adicts are thinking I never heard that either and now they are going to try it....
We need to outlaw everything...maybe then we will be safe....
They messed up bigtime, they only got one of the many. MPDV is not the only designer drug being sold as “bath salts” or “plant food” - and they’re sold that way in a shallow attempt to skirt the DEA’s Analog Laws. That way, the suppliers from China can claim the products are “Not for Human Consumption”, and therefore do not violate the Analog laws, but it’s well known what their real purpose is. Most of these designer drugs that your kids can walk into almost any convenience store and buy are simple analogs of the VERY illegal drugs MDMA (Ecstacy) and Methcathinone, and are classified as psychedelic amphetamines. The most prominent drugs being dumped in our neighborhoods by China are MPDV, Mephedrone, and Methylone. They produced tons and tons of these white powders and were selling them to kids in the UK Dance Club scene, until they started overdosing in droves, and the UK suddenly banned them. China quickly started shipping their surplus poisons to the US, and within a few short months their “products” are now on sale just down the street in all 50 states. These drugs are completely unknown “research chemicals”, with no real medical studies on their effects on humans. And yes, most demonstrate varying degrees of addiction (especially mephedrone). Thank you, China...
Yep, a hot tub, candles, bath salts and a couple 4 Loko’s...it’s sure to set the perfect mood with wifey...just don’t forget the water-wings.
I voted for Pam Bondi...because Sarah PAlin endorsed her....
Fixed it.
Oops, my acronymal dyslexia struck again. MPDV should be MDPV.
Not the venue most people frequent to buy their luxury personal hygeine items. It may interest you that Publix, Walmart,CVS, Bed Bath and Beyond, etc, do not carry these single use “bath” products.
Not exactly a direct competitor to Calgon, but it will take you away...
I don't have any mixed feelings on this.
If a gas station sold pint bottles of gasoline to minor children, would you also have “mixed feelings” about the intended use of the product?
Or are you ignorant of the dangers of “huffing gas”?
“”makes you think you are seeing monsters and makes you think you can fly,” “
Corn liquor.
It’s not about ignorance. This is about government legislating outside of the will of the people. I voted for Bondi, but to knee-jerk ban something without any explanation is a bit much.
It’s not the government’s responsibility to dictate safety. They’ve taken the “Defense” idea a bit far. If parents can’t tell or don’t talk to their kids about this, it’s not the government’s problem when they start ODing. That should urge parents to talk to their kids more if there’s a spate of ODs.
