Chocolate strawberries among extravagant demands by Nancy Pelosi as she spent $101,000 in two years on services while travelling with US Airforce

If the US Airforce did all airline food, it would be strawberries dipped in dark chocolate and grilled chicken salads all round.

Unfortunately this luxury is reserved for top US politicians alone, as new documents detailing Nancy Pelosi's travel expenses reveal.

The former House Speaker was showered with a cornucopia of gourmet food and alcohol as she travelled over 90,000 miles around the world in just nine months last year - all courtesy of the US Airforce (USAF).

On one overseas excursion, her office even wrote to the USAF asking for strawberries dipped in dark chocolate as a birthday treat.

The documents, uncovered by political corruption watchdog Judicial Watch, reveal that the US taxpayer was billed for $101,429 (£64,000) in Mrs Pelosi's in-flight services over a period of two years.

One internal Air Force email sent on March 25, 2010 said: 'The speaker’s office is requesting egg salad sandwiches on wheat toast with fruit (watermelon, etc) for desert [sic].

Things must have changed. I worked with and around a number of AF general officers over the years and I don’t recall that they all had their own assigned aircraft. Now, there is a fleet of aircraft set up to ferry general officers around but there were not personal, assigned aircraft for anyone other than the very senior command chiefs. If all of the generals assigned to Offutt AFB under SAC and then STRATCOM had their own planes then I’m wondering where they were parked and maintained. From the VIP fleet, they are scheduled and assigned, sometimes coming from one base to another to pick up the passengers and fly them wherever. I made several TDY flights as an add-on passenger with a general and I didn’t seem much other than coffee and an inflight meal box, even for the general.

I don't know what years you traveled with them? In the late 90's, the steps to the planes even had the number of stars of the generals so to show his rank before he exited the plane. They don't paint stars in the steps of lear jets to serve as fleet assets.

Now I've never seen the VIP treatment when they are flying military specific platforms like C130's, etc.... Only when they are flying exec jets, obtained and maintained by the military.

I see we are finding out about this from UK media AGAIN.

I have taken to reading The Telegraph and Daily Mail before any US media.

Queer San Fran Nan should be in jail.

They could have saved on the strawberries if they’d have typed “sean” in for the promo code. Who’d have thought watching Hannity could save on tax dollars so directly?

I really don’t see why she can’t be billed for this, especially given the fact she’s very wealthy.

And, I think we should make her do it. Of course, she will refuse because she REALLY does think she is above the fray - higher status and privileged. She will flat out not pay it because of her delusions. She really should be locked up.

There are people here in the US scraping to make ends meet, keep a home, keep a business afloat— perhaps only having ramen noodles or beans and rice.

Our elected officials—at the snap of a finger— order up their heart’s desire and eat like royalty, maybe even like dictators would and it’s supplied by our tax dollars.

Certainly we don’t have it as bad as the North Koreans but it smacks of the same royalty/entitlement mentality— our troops with their lives on the line, eat MRE’s.

This is wrong on so many levels and it is rather disgusting and ugly to gaze upon.

And it’s way past time that all of it stopped.

It’s not only wasteful, it’s disgraceful.

Pelosi is only one of how many wasteful spenders?

For me that’s the rub. It’s waste of taxpayers dollars at an orders of magnitude level.

This world is all about who lets who know what. They polarize and freeze this person over here, so you won't see the thousands over there. They publicly run a circus over this or that concern, as to distract you from something else, yet leaving you feel some satisfaction and control.

Governing has become a negative sum gain. None of it as it's practiced today would be better than what we have to endure.

She most likely did get billed for the catering. Her office most likely pays the bill too. You really don't think it costs $90,000,000 to run for an office which pays $225,000 do you? When she's eating strawberries, caviar, truffles, and sipping champagne, she's got a lot of company on the plane. Union bosses, lobbyists, and investment bankers are dipping the straberries too ya know. It's all the cost of doing political business.

If you want it fixed, ban the use of military transport for congress and senate. Blackwater type agencies will take you anywhere you want to go with better armed security and better trained staff. It's just that they have to spend their own war chests to travel if they don't want to fly Delta.
