The Flathead Beacon has a story today about a bill in Montana to require proper documentation to get on their ballots.

Was that an article, or an editorial? I hate reading crap like that.
But maybe it gives me a reason to contact the guy who introduced that bill, to let him know what would really make the issue go away.
There wasn’t a link to the bill itself, but as long as a SOS doesn’t have a definition of “natural born citizen” to work with and isn’t required to base any decisions on the actual documents, Montana under that bill wouldn’t be much different than the situation in New Jersey, where the SOS was required to “verify Constitutional eligibility” for presidential candidates and yet when Roger Calero, John McCain, and Barack Obama were all placed on the ballots Donofrio couldn’t even get standing to sue.
It’s good to see the eligibility bills presented, but not just anything will work on this issue, because of the slippery arguments already used to frustrate real accountability.
Thanks for the link. I think I’ll see about contacting that lawmaker in Montana. See if he’ll consider some amendments to the bill.
