Scientists in England say they have identified the gene that is responsible for cancer's spread through the body - raising the possibility of a "one-size-fits-all" cure for the disease by developing a drug that switches off the gene.

I agree. I lost my mother to lung cancer 3 years ago, an Aunt to brain cancer back in 81’ and have a sister in law that has colorectal cancer and has to use a bag now.

From the article, it’s unclear if the gene does anything positive when off. Instead, the article implies that the gene is found only in cancer cells:
“The culprit gene - known as WWP2 - is an enzymic bonding agent found inside cancer cells. It attacks and breaks down a natural inhibitor in the body which normally prevents cancer cells spreading...”
