Will Illinois Supreme Court Justice Anne Burke recuse herself from Emanuel case?
Chicago Sun Times ^ | 1-24-11 | Lynn Sweet

As the Rahm Emanuel Chicago mayoral residency case heads to the Illinois Supreme Court--an Illinois Appellate panel knocked him off the Feb. 22 primary ballot on Monday-- the question folks are asking is: What is Anne Burke going to do?

There are seven members of the Illinois Supreme Court and the one with the most political ties is Justice Anne Burke, married to Ald. Edward Burke (14th) the most powerful alderman in Chicago's City Council--and one of the biggest backers of Gery Chico's mayoral bid.

She may want to argue that she is a judge in her own right, has her own career and what her husband does is his business. But if that were so, Burke would not be on the Supreme Court today.

This is the big story behind the story. If Anne Burke recuses herself, that will increase the potential for a 3-3 tie in the Illinois Supreme Court, which means the Appeals Court decision will stand, and Emanuel will stay off the ballot.

First, the Supreme Court will have to accept the case, which has not happened as of yet. Meanwhile, two million ballots are being printed - without the name of Rahm Emanuel on them.

Recuse herself? She’s looking for a way to have her vote counted three or four times.

Obamma played loose and fast with the rules of the US Constitution in order to get the presidential nomination. He did so with RICO like crimes. The courts know this and they are going to hold Emanuel to the letter of the law. They are pissed off at Obamma.

Now we are seeing "Birthgate" turn into something more. The more Emanuel fights, the more Obamma will have to deal with the now "no birth certificate even exists" reality and it's implications for 2012.

Is the Supreme Court in Illinois appointive or elective?

this is a major crisis for the people of Chicago.

Chico and Braun are totally incompetent. If either win, Chicago will be on the road to being another Detroit.

It will be a toilet bowl.

I’m not a big Rahm follower, but this is his destiny and he would be a good mayor.

Did you forget the sarcasm tag? Rahmuel is a corrupt, criminal pig who should be in prison. The only reason he is running for mayor is to help keep the other corrupt criminal in the White House.

Please, please.

This is Chicago.

If it’s sleaze, it’ll please.
If it fibs, it’s a lib.

Any relation between justice and ANYTHING in this city O’slime is simply not possible.

Doesn't that fit all Chicago politicians?

this is his destiny and he would be a good mayor

The position would allow him to siphon from the public trust the kind of mega bucks he feels he deserves, as payment for two decades of being a complete and utterly corrupt douchebag.

Destiny of a sort.

I’d like to believe that. How is it that the courts “are pissed off at Obama”?

Do you realize how many times this matter has been brought to the courts? Each time they toss it out, infering that it has no merit. Well, surprise, surprise! Someone has been providing false statements to the courts!

People don't quite understand how big this really is! Powerful people have sworn under oath that this birth record exists and they testified to that.

Now do they contact the courts and revise their statements as they need to in order to not be guilty of a crime? Many of them are lawyers and would be disbarred for providing false statements along with serving jail time.
