China was able to build its first stealth bomber using technology gleaned from a downed U.S. fighter, it has been claimed.
Beijing unveiled its state-of-the-art jet – the Chengdu J-20 – earlier this month.
Military officials say it is likely the Chinese were able to develop the stealth technology from parts of an American F-117 Nighthawk that was shot down over Serbia in 1999.

Anyone have any intel on the actual shooting down of the stealth fighter over Serbia? Was it a lucky shot or is there a more sinister explanation?

The F-117 first flight was in 1981 and it achieved initial operating capability status in October 1983. The F-117 project started in 1975. In 1977 Lockheed produced two 60% scale models under the Have Blue contract. The Have Blue program was a stealth technology demonstrator that lasted from 1976 to 1979. The success of Have Blue led the Air Force to create the Senior Trend program which developed the F-117.
We can safely say that the technology is 30 years old. However, the plane may have gave the Chinese and Russians the rudimentary basics of stealth technology.
From what I have heard the SA-2 missile commander was firing blindly and hit it.

Good point, and by the time they fly it it will be 45 years old. It will take time for the Chicoms to get this ready, a 2 minute flight will not do it.
The aircraft is rudimentary stealth and they still have a long way to go.Stealth technology is not a single technology. It is a combination of technologies that attempt to greatly reduce the distances at which a person or vehicle can be detected; in particular radar cross section reductions, but also acoustic, thermal, and other aspects:

Yeah, they "developed" stealth technology independently. Same as the Ruskies developed the StratoFortress independently and they developed subs independently and they developed nukes independently and they developed ICBM's independently.

If they can't steal the idea from someone else, they don't got it.

The route was specified by the White House. They refused to allow any other route to be chosen for “diplomatic reasons”
