George Allen’s Problem
Red State ^ | 1/24/2011 | Erick Erickson

Posted on 01/24/2011 4:55:03 PM PST by mac_truck

Today, former Senator George Allen is expected to announce his intention to run against the man who beat him six years ago — Jim Webb. Of course it remains uncertain whether Webb will even run again.

[snip]

...former Senator Allen is going to have to address some serious problems other than the disastrous campaign waged in 2006 (he may need to talk about that too). Those problems are, put succinctly, his voting record, which is out of step with most of the grassroots activists engaged in Republican primaries today. I’m already getting lots of emails about this and, frankly, most people just want some accounting from Allen.

I keep hearing that he wasnt a good Senator and that he didnt vote right, but I havent heard anyone say what votes he made specifically that were wrong.

He liked his pork, with bbq.

He supported alot of spending, and federal control.

No child left behind, the prescription drug bill, hate crimes, etc.

He was a right of center republican as senator, but he was far more conservative as a governor.

That said, he was someone I was willing to support for President, because he was more conservative then McCain and Romney, but he blew his own re-election.

He talks more conservative then he acts........

George Allen’s lifetime ACU rating is 92.6.

Jim Webb needs to be defeated. He campaigned as a blue dog, conservative Democrat but of course his voting record is typically liberal. This is an important seat to pick up and I believe George Allen has the complete set of tools to get it done. He has the experience, fundraising, and name ID to win statewide.

His macaca comment is going to haunt and dog him for the rest of his life.

Why? "Macaca" is no Chappaquiddick.

Most smart VA voters can forgive Allen for whatever irreparable damage (ROTFL) the horrible, barbaric, inhuman, and uncivil act of saying "Macaca" has caused them.

Yep, you got it about right, Allen had his chance. He needs to stay on the porch this time out.

I don’t vote in Virginia, so it’s up to y’all - but my opinion is, you shouldn’t wear a cowboy hat unless you’re a cowboy.

Virginia re-elected Eric Cantor in the House. His voting record for the years prior to 2006 was similar to Allen’s. The Republican message in 2010 was “We were fired in 2008 and we got the message. Give us another chance.” Allen, a very popular and effective governor before he became Sen., is saying the same thing. It’s important to focus on current issues and not the past gotchas— that’s just what the Dems want. (I am from Virginia, and want to know where you think the “real” cowboys are— in Nashville? If George wants to wear cowboy boots and hats, more power to ‘im!)

Erick Erickson views this particular from the media template. His view has been colored by the left winged media. Erickson sees Allen as a liability because Erickson himself is a RINO.

Allen lost by a few thousand votes.  It wasn't a "disaster", and 2006 was a good year for Democrats because they masqueraded around as Conservatives.  It was that year that the Democrat Senators who won elections in red states running as Conservatives are up for re-election in 2012 are running, Jim Webb being one of them.

Kent Conrad of North Dakota, for example, is retiring because the Tea Party in that state are busy exposing his voting record.  If the Tea Party in Virginia was doing that same thing right now,  Jim Webb will be tossed out in 2012.  It won't matter one whit who he's running against because he's a fraud.

If you think his macaca statement is a bigger issue in this cycle, then you are either a Dem plant or drive-by journalist.

Erickson sees Allen as a liability because Erickson himself is a RINO.

Erickson has expressed a preference for the Tea Party endorsed Senate candidate Jamie Radtke from Richmond, so its hard to see how the RINO label fits unless you consider Radtke a RINO also.

He also expressed a preference for the Tea Party endorsed Senate candidate Scott Brown from Massachusetts as well.

Yes or no?

Irrelevant since the thread is about George Allen.

Exactly right. You needn’t have been cunning to explain that macaca means “pest”, and drop the issue. NO APOLOGIES! His reaction to the “scandal” is what cost this clueless one the race. That and voter fraud, which always benefits Dems a couple percentage points. Bob

I love you man, but please do not be pinging me to posts trashing Jamie Radtke. I did a lot of volunteer work for VCAP in the past and learned to respect and admire her.

She has done more to promote conservative politics and candidates than anyone else in Virginia that I know of. She is an honest, decent soul and would make a great Senator.

I know you are an Allen man to the bone. I was too (well, not the man part).

I’m ready for young, fresh, faces and ideas and Radtke suits me to a TEA!

Did you actually read the link? I have nothing against Radtke, but she runs the risk of being labled another Angle or O’Donnell. The article merely cautions her against that.

If she gets the nomination, I’ll vote for her.

It wasn’t “macaca” that did Allen in - - it was apologizing.
