ORANGEBURG, S.C. A Columbia man is pushing to get the birthday of the late actress and singer Eartha Kitt recognized in the state she was born.
Sheldon Rice started talking to South Carolina legislators shortly after Kitt died in December 2008.
He says Kitt was a world-renowned entertainer and it is a shame she isn't better remembered in her home state.

I think Charro day would be better. She’s better remembered and it would cater to the hispanics.

LOL...Probably but since when has that gotten in their way?? I doubt Gov. Haley and most Republicans would go along with the bill...But I couldn’t resist a story about Eartha Kitt...(Reminds me of the Cheesy Bat-Man series...POW..CRASH!) LOL

They could make “Santa Baby” the South Carolina anthem.

Personally, I would be glad to get rid of Earth Day and celebrate Eartha Kitt Day instead! Let's make it a national holiday.

They could make Santa Baby the South Carolina anthem. How about Momotonous?

Look on the bright side. Every minute they spend considering this legislation is a minute they are NOT searching out rights which have not yet been infringed upon with the sole purpose of finding a way to infringe on them.
PS - I'm not picking on South Carolina, here. I wish Virginia's General Assembly would get distracted for a few weeks by some “Eartha Kitt Day” legislation (or its functional equivalent).

I'd like to see even MORE photographic evidence before I decide once and for all whether I support this legislation.

She was great.
I even liked her as Yzma in the Emperor’s new Grove.

Just in case everyone has forgotten, Ms. Kitt was a communist sympathizing Vietnam war protester, who publicly tried to humiliate the troops and the President.
She may have been talented, but she was a loser.

I am much more likely to ‘Eartha Kitt Day’ celebrate than Earth Day.
