T. PETERSBURG - Three law enforcement officers were shot this morning a U.S. Marshal and two St. Petersburg police officers in the 3700 block of 28th Avenue South, police said.
A suspected gunman is barricaded in a home at 3726 28th St. S., and police are trying to negotiate with his family members. He is still shooting at police, officers said.
One of the injured officers had been in the home as well, but an armored vehicle knocked down the door and the officer was evacuated. That officer has been taken to Bayfront Medical Center.

Too bad the Trop has to be in that vicinity.
for later
Eeeegads NN, you’re right- it does look like an F4 slammed into it.
Do you think the wife will object to it being razed..
I’ve had the “pleasure” of spending time at both BayFront and St. Anthony’s, and the surrounding neighborhoods are such that I want to get to my car and get the Hell out of Dodge. I went to high school in St. Pete as well (Boca Ciega), and remember the 96 riots quite vividly.
I’ve not been to a Rays game in a very long time due to the area. They’ve been trying to get a new stadium built for the Rays, presumably to get it out of that neighborhood, but I don’t see that ever happening.
There are parts of St. Pete that I’ve tolerated, but for the most part, I avoid the entire area at almost any cost.
It is? What is the usual annual rate of shootings of police in the US? Do these two shootings represent a statistically significant change from the norm?
This is really bad. When people start shooting cops the cops start shooting people innocent or not. If this keeps up we’ll have more than the usual share of dead dogs and dawn raids in our future.
I was born at Mound Park Hospital in 1957 when it was the only hospital in town. My wife graduated from Boca Ciega, and we both lived in St. Pete until the early 70s. She and I went back there at Christmas 2009 to look at the old places. Just barely recognizable, and no place we would live now. Sorry if that sounds racist. Our old neighborhoods (Coquina Key) were hostile.
Hell, don't take my word for it.

Police fear 'war on cops'
A spate of shooting attacks on law enforcement officers has authorities concerned about a war on cops.
In just 24 hours, at least 11 officers were shot. The shootings included Sunday attacks at traffic stops in Indiana and Oregon, a Detroit police station shooting that wounded four officers, a shootout at a Port Orchard, Wash., Wal-Mart that injured two deputies. On Monday morning, two officers were shot dead and a U.S. Marshal was wounded by a gunman in St. Petersburg, Fla.
On Thursday, two Miami-Dade, Fla., detectives were killed by a murder suspect they were trying to arrest.
Really? How many indicated they thought all cops deserved to die? What is going to be done about this? Nothing? Stupid country.
“but an armored vehicle knocked down the door and the officer was evacuated.”
“Thank God the military was there.”
This does not mean the military was there..the police have armored vehicles.
Nah, he's a fat, mean, black sex offender who was known to beat up his (wife? girlfriend?) ... I'll bet he's a dem - if he votes at all.
Krugman 's in a corner crying - wishing he could blame the tea party...
Its open season on cops.
I can't say that I'm surprised. LEOs have been going the extra mile provoking the citizens, blasting away at pets, busting down doors, tazering motorists, gunning down non-threatening suspects, shooting into crowds, arrogantly throwing their authority and special legal protection around, confiscating and seizing property without due process, the list goes on.
The point being, is that each person has their threshold of when they lash out in frustration, LEOs have been begging to be that target since they represent "authority" and "the man". As the oppression of government keeps ratcheting up, the politicians eager to find that tipping point where we follow our demons into a violent and bloody civil war, the more and more we will find the weaker minded among us finally going Postal.
Prayers for their families, since they have to live with the consequences of their family member's decisions and the wacko's violent outburst.
I guess he got his wish.
One of the deceased has three children under 12 - two boys and a girl.
I think some of the house razing went too far. Where’s this woman who he’d badly beaten before going to live? If she was renting, her landlord’s insurance might not cover crime or a house razing. What I found out is that THE BAD GUY WAS IN THE ATTIC AND SHOOTING ROUNDS THROUGH THE CEILING. They couldn’t even see him. He was shooting from above through the ceiling. So, they were ambushed from the get go. I recall Chevy Chase falling through his attic floor in a Vacation movie.
Eleven police killed in a 24 hour period. Did the bad guys text?
The local news anchors doing promos for 10 and 11 look really sad. I’ve never seen anchors show how they really feel before. This one just blindsided the community. A lady bystander at the scene said a censored word during a live shot this a.m. They edited it out. She said the situation was “f’n insane.” The anchor bk at the studio said, “Well at least she warned us ahead of time that she was going to say something to apologize for.”
