New York - Wheat prices are surging after export sales skyrocketed. The U.S. Agriculture Department said Friday that export sales of wheat totaled 1.05 million metric tons last week. It's the highest level since August, when Russia banned wheat exports after a drought devastated much of its crop. (Snip) Wheat for March delivery rose 21 cents, or 2.6 percent, to settle at $8.245 a bushel. March corn added 3.25 cents to settle at $6.5725 a bushel while soybeans slipped 2 cents to $14.1225 a bushel.

The Honeyville Farms store in the Phoenix area hasn’t had hard white wheat in several weeks, unless they’ve recently had a shipment.

White wheat is for pastry. Do you grind it for pastry flour?

Hard white wheat is for anything that requires yeast. Soft white wheat is for everything else. Yes, I grind it. I have a lot more hard white than soft white.

Wheat is surging in price because of money printing by the federal reserve.

Along with other food prices.

Oh..... I was thinking of soft white wheat. I buy rye and wheat and grind it for bread. Rye is very cheap. 99 cents a pound.

Is anyone else noticing more shortages of food items recently? It seems to me that frequently, common items such as coffee, peanut oil, frozen vegetables are not in the stores, as well as declining brand variety.

I noticed today that pecans have gone up by 50% at Costco in the last couple of months, from below $10 for 2 lbs to nearly $15. Google searches show that the Chinese have developed a taste for pecans (or their futures buyers have).

I haven’t seen pineapple juice where I shop for months. For a while I was buying an apple/pineapple mix, but that has gone too. I wasn’t sure if it was a seasonal thing I just hadn’t noticed before.

Bread and bread products will skyrocket some more. And it is not one of those products that freezes well.

All of China's wheat belt. 1/4 of Russia's. Assorted other countries have had trouble to one degree or the other with wheat.

A new wheat rust appeared in Africa and has spread.

Pecans are very tempermental. Last year I had pecans go bad because I had so many on my trees...this year zip. There is no rhyme or reason why pecan trees do as they do...no-one can predict a good/bad year.
