The Chinese propaganda film that the music is from makes the most implausible claim that U.S. involvement in the Korean War was actually intended to conquer China. In what alternative universe?

I have the suspicion that the pianist did this to curry favor with the PRC. Their government is based on patronage, not merit.

Well, the guy is a US resident, if rather weird (it’s been reported he’s a transvestite). But family in China could open him up to blackmail. On the other hand that also leaves the pianist as a fall guy should the feces strike the propeller as it probably will once Rush Limbaugh gets hold of this.

>>Cheng Xiaonong is a former assistant to former CCP General Secretary Zhao Ziyang. He now lives in New Jersey and is a commentator on Chinese politics.<<
Perhaps someone in the area wouldn’t mind hunting him down and giving him good reasons, such as the continued ability to breathe without a mechanical respirator, to move back to China.
Cheng, the great thing about America is that you can leave any f’ing time you want to. We don’t require previous notice or that you have a passport. Hit the road, Scumbag.

Now we know for sure how incredibly arrogant they are.

I’d want to find out first who set him up to do this or what was the big idea. Could it be his way of protesting the visit? He would have to know the brouhaha that would follow.

I’d bet all he was told was “Play some nice Chinese music.” The State Department probably didn’t even know about the propaganda film.

It was probably our STATE DEPARTMENT that recommended the song...

He was playing to an anti-American crowd. What’s surprising about it?
