Comedienne Joan Rivers revealed she once ditched a joke about First Lady Michelle Obama from her stand-up routine - because she feared she'd be accused of racism.

Recalling the wisecrack to shock Jock Howard Stern, the comedy legend said: "We used to have Jackie O now we have Blackie O!"

You have to admit it is a great joke. Michelle Obama is a bad joke.

There is no middle ground with Joan Rivers....she either makes you love her or hate. I do admit the Blackie O is funny.

But Rivers has no compunction at all about taking potshots at Sarah Palin.

All the disgusting(but funny) things she has said in her long(ancient) career and this may be the one that turns her into a Hollywood pariah.

Nice knowing you Joan.

I find her irritating, but that just made my husband and myself crack up. Truly funny.

My husband said Joan Rivers called Sara Palin a Nzai, which is worse and she gets a pass on both. I think she has been hanging around Joyless Behar too long.

Yea, but a conservative would be fired from his job for making such a “joke.” And I doubt the American people are amused in the least. They have too much of their vanity invested in the Obamas.

Self-censorship is exactly what Political Correctness is all about. When you refuse to say something because it is racially tinged, the hate police have already won.

"When you refuse to say something because it is racially tinged, the hate police have already won" --

With respect, I'd suggest that it's even more insidious: The hate police have won when you refuse to say something because you're afraid someone else might think it is racially tinged.

“Wookie-O” wouldn’t have been racist. Right?

What a country!

Joan Rivers sells trash on QVC and talks trash on Howard Stern.

I don’t think Joan Rivers was the first to say it. IIRC I read this a long time ago and it wasn’t from her.

Anyway, it’ll be considered a COMPLIMENT. Don’t all first ladies aspire to be in Jackie O’s league?

Update: Stylist Phillip Bloch jokingly used the term “Blackie-O” when describing Michelle Obama back in 2008. When he was complimenting Forrest Whitaker’s wife on her outfit and calling her “Jackie-O” she corrected him by saying she was more like “Blackie-O.” He then used this term to describe Michelle Obama.

Since he is an Obama supporter it wasn’t considered racist or mean-spirited. If he was a republican it would have been considered racist and mean-spirited.

“But Rivers has no compunction at all about taking potshots at Sarah Palin.”

She is fair and balance. I admit I am a big fan of Joan. She is a great conservative...enough in her conservative beliefs to get into huge verbal fights with liberal asses.

Joan and many of us have had too much of Palin one way or the other. Many of us are just plain tired of her. She has become tiresome. She has overexposed herself and her family.

This morning I had my favorite Chinese takeout breakfast again for the zillionth time...shrimps fixed in a special way. I ate it along the way driving to other places. When I finished it, I realized I had become good and sick of it and will not order it again for maybe another year or longer as delicious as it is.

My pets become sick and tired of the same foods and changes have to be made in my household to keep their interest up.

This is how I feel about Sarah. I am sick and tired of her.
