House Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan (R, Wisc.) will deliver the Republican response to President Obama's State of the Union Address. Ryan has done quite well going head-to-head with the president in the past. Here's the video of Ryan at Obama's health care summit last year:

Here's the congressional Republicans' announcement:
House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) and Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) announced today that House Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan (R-WI) will deliver the Republican address following the Presidents State of the Union address to Congress on January 25, 2011. Last year in an unprecedented failure Congressional Democrats chose not to pass, or even propose a budget, punting on a duty that represents the most basic responsibility of governing. Chairman Ryan will deliver the Republican address Tuesday night from the House Budget Committee hearing room, where the Democrats spending spree will end and the Republicans push for a fiscally responsible budget that cuts spending will begin.
In making the announcement, the GOP leaders noted that Chairman Ryan is a leading voice for fiscal discipline and common-sense solutions to cut spending and create jobs. Known for his thoughtful and detailed critiques of big-government policies, Ryan has helped put to rest the Democrats argument that more government spending and higher taxes is the answer to most of our nations ills. His commitment to free enterprise and limited government make him the right choice to outline a vision for how a smaller, less costly government will help create the right conditions for the creation of good, private sector jobs.
Paul Ryan is uniquely qualified to address the state of our economy and the fiscal challenges that face our country, said Speaker Boehner. Were broke, and decisive action is needed to help our economy get back to creating jobs and end the spending binge in Washington that threatens our childrens future. Im pleased that Paul will be outlining a common-sense vision for moving our country forward.
Leader McConnell said, Paul Ryan has spent the better part of the last two years explaining exactly why the Democrat agenda has been so bad for jobs and the economy, and why we need to ditch the government-driven approach in favor of creative, common-sense solutions that put the American people back in charge. Chairman Ryans unique understanding of the fiscal problems we face, his command of policy, and his adherence to the principles of our nations founding make him an excellent spokesman for the path that Americans want Washington to take.
Delivering an address to the nation is a unique opportunity, and I am grateful to my partys leaders for entrusting me with this responsibility, said Ryan. I am hopeful that the President will work with the new House Majority to cut spending, reform government, and restore the foundations for growth and job creation. More than rhetoric, we need results. I look forward to outlining a vision for a future that fulfills the uniquely American legacy of leaving the next generation with a stronger, more prosperous nation.
Keep it short and simple. Concentrate on the economy and jobs.
You Lie!
First words. Good evening. We’ve just heard the President’s State of the Union Address. I call Bull Sh*t!
Oh boy, Where do I begin?
FUBO
Tell Obama to resign or face impeachment, then talk about jobs and the economy.
This is one brilliant representative that needs no suggestions. It was a smart pick; he’ll be strong and make his points well without appearing to be hateful.
Never the less, I would have preferred a sitting governor or a senator who doesn't have presidential ambitions to deliver the response.
Jim DeMint would have been a home run choice for this...
Ironically, the perfect person for this might have been John Coryn (even though he is a rino), due to his speaking style and delivery......
Darn, you beat me to it...
Yes.
With gas at all time highs and electricity through the roof, remind the people that Obama has blocked drilling, and blocked nuclear plants and is still trying to implement an expensive energy cap and trade.
And that fuel and energy prices has been a major drain on the economy.
Ryan can CONTRAST. He can be the LAUNCH for the republican agenda for 2012 elections because Obama will certainly use the speech to begin his campaign. Ryan can bring up the charts and cut to the fact that we are up against policies which in a word will define marxism. Spell it out and let the take away be a war against specifics, marxism or capitlaism.
Beyond the SOU response, I am concerned about the seating idea. Someone better get through to those GOP ninnies they are being had with this intersperced seating arrangement. United we Thrive is going to become (.)bama’s reelection mantra as he has nothing else to run on and he is relying upon this nonsence to kick off his campaign ad.
Apparently you’ve not heard Paul Ryan discuss economics, fiscal and monetary policy in the US; why we’re at where we are now, and his solutions in reversing our downward spiral.
First words. Good evening. Weve just heard the Presidents State of the Union Address.
Fellow Americans, we recognize that you sent us here to facilitate America’s return to the glory days of peace, strength, freedom and liberty for all law abiding citizens, as per the original intent of the Consititution.
And we intend to do just that.
Have a nice day.
Without a doubt.
If he isn’t another later to go RINO, he would be an excellent VP pick for 2012.
