Yep! I live in Indy and if she blows, we’re gonna get burried in the fallout.

We're all gonna die!!!!

Yeah, that thing blows and no matter where you are in the US, you may as well break out the good booze and toast the end of the world.

A “We're Doomed!” thread that has been up for over 90 minutes without you posting to it?

Actually, it's a "We're Not Doomed" thread.

I'll let you know when we're doomed.

Until then, don't try to determine the doom nature of a thread.

Just leave it to me.

I second that. Scary to think they got their plant this far and God only knows what their end game is although it seems fairly obvious. Christ have mercy!

We plan on visiting for the first time in late spring...

We did this in 2009. Mount Rushmore, the Black Hills area, and Yellowstone the week before Memorial Day. Thought I'd give you a heads up that a lot of stuff doesn't open until after Memorial Day, including restaurants, hotels, and some roads through the areas. The southern route through Yellowstone was still closed, due to weather, and it was snowing while we were at Old Faithful. But, it was GREAT to have no crowds and little traffic!!

It took me a second to realize you were talking about my Obama links on my homepage, rather than Yellowstone.

I defer to your expertise. Is 10,000 packages of Ramen Noodles enough? Should I have bought more than one flavor?

No, no it isn't.

Should I have bought more than one flavor?

Depends. Did you buy "Skunk" or "Snail"? Then yes.

I've read that the Palma landslide thing is way over-rated/blown...that it won't happen.

Tsunami Risk

"You may remember the fuss in 2001 when two geologists, Steven Ward and Simon Day, announced their theory that the west side of the island of La Palma would collapse one day, creating a mega-tsunami that would cross the entire Atlantic and still be anything up to 25 metres high when it hit New York, and indeed everything from Newfoundland in Canada to Recife in Brazil."

"These days, almost all geologists seem to disagree.

10,000 packages enough?

Assuming you only eat 3 packs a day, that’s only a little over 9 years worth.

Of course you’ll probably starve to death long before then..............

Thanks for the heads up...wifey and I kinda like to be "on the road" for our anniversary which is May 26; year before last we had Daytona Beach to ourselves - it was just after Memorial Day and the week before school lets out in Florida.

The local eating places treated us like royalty, it was so dead.

It’ll be funny if it blows in December of 2012 and wipes out civilization.

Roughly...

25 * 37 miles * 7” (Average elev rise)= x cubic feet

7”= .00011 miles
35 * 27 * .00011 = 0.104 cubic miles

1 cubic mile = 14,719,795,200 cubic feet

14,719,795,2100 * 0.104 = 1,530,858,700.8 cubic feet

Approximate volume of the raised area = 1,530,858,700.8 cubic feet

*****

I worry about the descriptions. One could believe that a void is being filled by upsurging breath of magma when of course we now it is all solid. It is not like a lung expanding and contracting as in breathing. It is I believe a matter of heat that flows upward and melts and displaces the rock above and heats the rock above and it all expands. It is fluid transfer in space and heat
