The gun was in a backpack, we're told. The backpack was dropped or set down in a Gardena High School classroom Tuesday morning, and the gun fired accidentally, critically injuring a 15-year-old female student who was struck in the head. A male student, also 15, was shot in the neck.
You send your kids to school, and before the lunch bell rings, they're in the hospital.
So the questions begin.
Why is it so easy to smuggle a gun onto campus? How many more guns are on school campuses in greater Los Angeles and beyond? And when someone carries a gun for self-protection, as this kid allegedly did, isn't everyone, including the guy with the gun, at greater risk?
Maybe there's a simpler and more direct question to be asked:
When it comes to guns, why do we seem to be out of our gourds?
As the drama was playing out Tuesday at Gardena High, I got an unfortunately timed e-mail, at 11:11 a.m., from the National Rifle Assn. I get regular e-mails because a reader and NRA supporter once gave me a membership. This particular missive was a "GRASSROOTS ALERT."
In response to the deadly rampage in Tucson, the alert warned, various calls have been made for new gun control legislation. But I wasn't to worry...
--snip--
"What good is an unloaded gun?" asks an informational listing at http://www.californiaopencarry.org. "Obviously, not much. However, with a little practice, one can easily load a handgun in under two seconds."...

Sorry Stevie. In America, we've got the Second Amendment. You can Google it.
Steve Lopez, if you want my guns, you and your cronies come get them. Personally. I am not above going out in a hail of bullets defending my family.
This Lopez Times writer is constantly giving us sob stories on illegal aliens and now anti-gun rants.

How perfect!
Then some people moved to town who don't have manners and have no intention of assimilating with anybody.
For them this is just Downtown Aztlan so everybody else has to get off the sidewalk.
The solution isn't to take guns away from the folks in Gardena. Nope, it's to take the cheap upstairs maids, bedwarmers and lawnboys away from the wealthy and powerful classes in Sacramento. Send them "down home"
Didn’t know it was legal for a untrained minor to have a loaded weapon on school grounds in LA. Who would of thunk it???
Liberals’ fear of guns make them irrational. In Israel, soldiers carry loaded Uzis on buses, in cafes, restaurants, businesses and no one thinks its unusual. And yes, an armed society is a polite one and a safe one. The Left wants to take away our Second Amendment rights in the name of preventing a future Jared Loughner. In other words, if a psychopath shoots up a crowd of innocent people at a supermarket, prevent every one else from defending themselves with a gun. Now that’s really brilliant!
The accidental discharge from the backpack was
avoidable. Having a round in the chamber with
the pistol loose in a backpack is dangerous and
stupid. That doesn’t even consider the illegal
condition of having the firearm on a K-12
facility by other than a law enforcement officer or a unsupervised
minor in possession of a loaded pistol in CA. It
was already illegal and the law was no barrier.
Some safety training could have avoided the
discharge. More to the point...why do the little
darlings feel the need to be armed at school? Is
there something fundamentally wrong that urges
them to come armed?
Knock on my door and tell me you are there to confiscate my Guns. The Debate will begin and end at that point.
When I saw the title, I thought that perhaps “inject a little sanity” meant putting anti-gun wingnuts onto some stronger meds. You know, I might be more inclined to support Obamacare if that were the case.
But alas...
Lawyer Goudy: Was your revolver loaded and cocked?
Rooster Cogburn: Well, a gun that’s unloaded and cocked ain’t good for nothin’.
Wow! Just wow! That's the most honest question I've heard from a liberal in...uh...ever!
Bullseye!
Well, it's California, right, but they let in the illegals and they changed everything ~ ain't no laws in their world!
