I'm placing this in breaking news, because there have been several breaking news complaint threads recently. Guess there are a lot of people not understanding the facts about FR, or what we stand for, where we're going, etc.
First of all, who reads FR and how many accounts do we have? I honestly have no idea and the exact number does not concern me. We currently have over 369,000 registered accounts on FR, but as someone pointed out yesterday, not all of them are active and I have no idea how many are active.
Many years ago we had less than 30,000 accounts registered. Then we hit a hundred thousand, a hundred fifty thousand, then two hundred thousand and three or four years ago we approached and went over 300,000. Every few years as we hit a major milestone in registered accounts, I updated our home page with the current number of accounts on FR. I'll probably do it again after we go over 400,000, then 500,000, etc, and maybe I won't. The number of registered accounts doesn't really mean much. And our growth in the last few years has tapered off anyway for various reasons.
Who actually reads FR? Again, we have no idea, but there are hundreds of thousands maybe even millions of readers. All kinds of people read FR. News hounds, liberals, conservatives, politicians, talk show hosts, religious types, atheists, you and me brother and everyone in between. We serve over 1,000,000 pageviews per day.
So why has our growth tapered off? Well, probably the primary reason is we've narrowed our point of view lately as we've moved away from just talking about the issues and have actually started becoming constitutional activists.
The time for talking is over. Now we need to walk the walk. Our focus has become closer to working on our primary goal which is a return to constitutionally limited government and a full restoration of our God-given unalienable rights.
We can't do that by being big tent, all things to all people, non-principled, two-talking politicians. If we are truly interested in advancing our traditional conservative pro-God, pro-family, pro-life, pro-country, pro-liberty principles and positions then we must reject the politicians and people supporting the other way.
As an organization, we cannot be both for and against homosexuality, abortion, big government, border and national security, etc. I don't know about others, but if we must choose, I choose to be on the right side of each and every issue. Why should FR use its limited resources to allow liberals, homosexualists, abortionists, big spenders, big taxers, big government solutions advocates, gun grabbers, pacifists, isolationists, environmentalists, open-borders lobbyists, etc, ply their trade on FR? Well, more and more lately, we don't. And, apparently, that has pissed off a lot of big tent, true blue RINO types and the herd is stampeding. Let them go.
We who share our common traditional conservative principles, values and goals will be better off in the long run. We need to build on our strengths and attract more traditional conservatives to our viewpoints than to water down and weaken our own. It just doesn't make sense to me to support politicians like Giuliani, Romney, Gingrich, et al, who have RINO/liberal track records. It doesn't make sense to allow abortionists, homosexualists, gun-grabbers, big-government solutionists, etc, to have free rein on FR to target and lambast us daily with their repugnant bile. Let them go.
FR will continue on the traditional God, family, country, life and liberty path. If it means fewer accounts or less growth, so be it. If it means we receive fewer in donations, so be it. We will adapt, improvise and overcome and I believe prosper (God willing) in the long run. And, hopefully, someday we can say that we helped restore our beloved republic and our Liberty!
Thank you, Jim, for the ‘State of FreeRepublic Address 2011’!
What a blessing this site is for Our Country.
Sometimes its good to ask, honestly, what the conservative position is. For example, do we want laws that limit homosexuality or do we want the government to stay out of private behavior? (Emphasize on private. There is no question about public behavior.) I want the first option, but Im not sure that is a conservative position...
I've been fighting the homosexual agenda on FR since 2002. You can do a keyword search on "homosexual agenda" and find thousands of threads. Every leftist pro-homo argument has been made countless times, and shot down countless times. There is absolutely no use in allowing pro-homo agenda trolls stinking up FR. You want to learn why the homo agenda is anti-conservative, why it's destructive? Do a key word search and study up. It's that simple.
It's another thread with the same theme - and the number of my comments went up. So, not much really.
Jim, more than ten years ago I mentioned to my son-in-law that there was NO place I could read, listen to, or view on the internet that was ALWAYS on the side of the Constitution. He said, “Try Free Republic.” I’ve been here every day for over ten years. THANK YOU.
BUMP
You are a sad, strange little man, and you have my pitty.
I love that pic. As I recall.. the tread where it was first posted was good too!
That’s such a beautiful photo!
LOL.
You completely twist what I said.
What I want is what I grew up with. There have always been, and will always be, perverts.
I want them where they were years ago, hidden, ashamed, and unable to come out of their so-called “closet” without ridicule from society.
Seems to me that that should be the conservative position. Shut up about it and keep the government absolutely out of it, except, of course, when crimes are committed (like public indecency, sexual abuse, etc.).
I doubt seriously that you can fight the homosexual agenda on FR. You need to get out there in the down and dirty world to do that. Camping out on FR is basically singing with the choir.
It’s absurd that you say I “want to learn why the homo agenda is anti-conservative, why it’s destructive.” Balderdash. I said no such thing and do not need to learn what I already know.
What I said — and what you apparently misunderstood — is that getting the government involved is good for the queer agenda in that it tries to elevate perversion to the same level as race and gender. Therefore, I repeat, I do not believe that law limiting homosexuality is a conservative position.
The greatest power is always that of public approval and disapproval. We’re seeing that in the Tea Party movement. We’re seeing that as the public becomes more aware that unborn babies are still babies.
Our best weapon is reason and intelligent argument. Free Republic is an excellent place to practice both, but you’re not likely to change the minds of like-minded conservatives who already agree with you.
tents? we don hab no steenkin tent !
we don need no steenking tent
Thank You Jim.
Sure you can. They have an FR cheering section. They get banned.
You seem to believe a few erroneous things.
1. You claim that is the conservatives who want the government involved. On the contrary, it is those pushing the homo agenda who have been using government to bludgeon the fag agenda on everyone primarily via judgicial interference and adding regulations that are not voted on. So the gov is already in it up to the eyeballs. So we have to fight back! Bring back the anti-sodomy laws, no allowing same sex marriage, no special rights for homos. That has to be by governemnt intervention - UNDOING what’s been done!
2. Allowing fag agenda pushers on FR does no one any good except the fag agenda pushers.
3. Why should conservatives “shut up about it”? How about fighting back?
4. The only reason the fag agenda has succeeded so well is PRECISELY BECAUSE it has been pushed by THE GOVERNMENT! You claim not to see this.
5. Many conservatives have learned how anti-freedom and destructive the homo agenda is right here on FR. Not everyone knows everything. I’ve seen many “thank yous” to pinged articles. Plus people lurk here and read and learn.
So your method is for conservatives to shut up, not try to do anything via government (iow allow the fag agenda to roll on as it has via government laws, edicts, regulations, judicial decision, and so on) and to top it all off, allow people to promote the fag agenda on FR!!!
I’d be out in public if I could. I can’t due to extremely bad asthma, so FR is my battleground.
You’ll like this thread.
LOL. I think your memory serves!
May I ask what’s going on here?
