The fact that I even have to post this in order to remind crazy liberals that political correctness and irresponsible finger pointing opportunities are endless for both sides of the aisle, but the adult party chooses to see things maturely and in context.

I would think from a criminal law standpoint, threats of violence are an altogether more serious matter when the utterer actually has the power to carry them out and has in fact used the weapons to perpetrate lethal violence on previous occasions.
But in the current situation, I believe it would work better to quote him in Philly in 2008, while he was still just a Chicago hoodlum not yet placed in possession of Predator drones:
If they bring a knife to the fight, we bring a gun. Because from what I understand, folks in Philly like a good brawl.
