CHINA got the technology for its first stealth fighter jet from Russia, a senior US lawmaker said on Tuesday, one week after the airplane apparently made its maiden flight.
'My understanding is that they built it on information that they received from Russia, from a Russian plane, that they were able to copy,' House Armed Services Committee Chairman Buck McKeon told reporters.
Mr McKeon, a Republican, said he hoped to 'hear more' on the issue from Defense Secretary Robert Gates, who was on a visit to Beijing when Chinese state media published photographs of the J-20 fighter in the skies over south-western China. According to the reports, which cited witnesses, the next-generation war jet - the existence of which highlights China's drive to modernise its military - made a 15-minute test flight before landing.
The lawmaker, who had been asked whether Beijing had obtained the technology needed to build such an advanced fighter from cyber-espionage, also stressed that 'China's a concern' for US national security.

Copying is never the same as inventing and it will show
My bet is that is part of the technology Slick Willie gave them. He may have laundered it through Russia, who knows?
We really have no reason to complain. The headline could have been: “China gets nuclear missile targeting technology from Bill Clinton.”
I bet it cost the Chinese a lot more to buy stealth from the Russians than it did to buy targeting from Clinton.
Only in America will they chase business and jobs away..
and perform political suicide..
If anyone is deluding themselves into thinking that our defense, science and research and development facilities have not been thoroughly penetrated by the ChiComs they are crazy. The number of students from China who study and “work” here added to the active penetration of our industry and internet systems have given the commies a huge advantage over us.
Anyways, interesting information on the '1960s J-9.' Sadly, the picture you posted (that in your prior iteration as Allthatucantleavebehind you had claimed was the J-20, but now is a 1960s J-9) does not match the information available on the actual J-9 from that era. That J-9 looked as follows (I have decided to use a small picture to save on bandwidth ...something you should also think about doing):
Quite different from what you put in your high-capacity JPEG post.
Please do not pollute FR with your inane Chinese propaganda Allthatucantleavebehind aka Abledd.
So, the Russians were working on another stealth fighter behind the back of India and the Sukhoi bureau, with China. I bet that we will see a “Stealth MiG” flying around Russia pretty soon.
IMO, MiG is bankrupt before next year.
They don’t have enough sells to stay afloat.
As for the J-9 ...the little picture I posted is the actual J-9 and was (ironically) from a Chinese website. The HUGE picture you posted of some large canard-equipped MiG-25 look-alike with canted tails is NOT the J-9. I am sorry, but the J-9 as it was to be made never looked anything like that.
As for the J-20, several Western analysts have remarked about its various weaknesses. One of them, an aerospace expert at the International Institute of Strategic Studies named Douglas Barrie, stated that 'the J20's airframe resembled that of an abandoned Russian prototype the MiG 1.42.' Not my words but his. Another expert called Richard Aboulafia stated that he was 'not sure that its even much of an impressive airframe. It looks like something that might have been designed in 1985.' Thus it is ridiculous in your prior guise claiming it was better than the Raptor. I am sorry it goes against what you must be gleaning from Chinese aviation forums, but just because you have a right to your own opinions doesn't mean you have a right to your own facts. Furthermore, it doesn't mean you can come to FR and start posting huge pictures (the same pictures as when you were Allthatucantleavebehind), making rabid claims about Chinese military superiority against the US, particularly when you just joined two days ago after been banned.
