Now this is what I like seeing from conservatives in Washington.
Senator Rand Paul is not wasting any time. Since his swearing-in two weeks ago, Paul is setting up a Senate Tea Party Caucus, much like the one Michele Bachmann created in Congress, and now he is introducing a budget proposal with over $500 billion worth of cuts.
Rand Pauls version of the federal budget will target every corner of the federal government including the Defense department. He is even calling for the elimination of the Education Department. I can tell Rand Paul will be my favorite senator.
Via Politico:
The difference between me and others is that I havent been beaten down by the process for 30 years, Paul said. I dont understand why I cant do something, why I cant change anything. Im incredibly optimistic.
Senator Jim DeMint has great words for Paul and even says if more senators were like Paul, he may return to his kinder, gentler self. Heh.
I can guarantee hes going to be his own person, but hes going to get some things done he ran on a very specific platform of less government, said conservative Sen. Jim DeMint (R-S.C.). I think that with a few people like that, I can go back to my kinder, gentler DeMint.

We'll have to see all the details on the defense cuts IMO, but this is more like it.

One year.
Cool.
I’d go for that.
It has 0 chance of getting any real support in the GOP

“is it over 10 years?”
Nope! :
“Kentuckys junior Republican senator... about to unveil his own sweeping budget plan that would result in a $500 billion cut in just one year about five times more than what the House GOP has promised to do.”

It’s great for getting the discussion going though- setting the tone for the future, even if it doesn’t get support now.

AND Another 500B in 2012.. I say go for it.. Rand..
Even if he cannot close this deal the fact of it being present whistles to the socialists..
And who will vote for and against it.. will tell a lot..
Especially with “so-called” conservatives..
The TpCaucus is GROWING.. growing, growing.. in most places like a Budget Shark..

More power to him! If only more were like this, we would be in better shape than we are now.

Only $500 billion? It's a better start than you'll see from any other republican or "fiscal conservative". If we can reduce it by that much every year for about 4 years, we might just have something workable.

When Democrats are in power the DoD gets more cuts than any other part of the Government and now, to be “fair,” they will get hammered more.
Maybe some day someone will cut the budgets of all the unconstitutional agencies and fund the DoD properly.

OH-OH, You don't get it Rand. You are in the Senate CLUB now. You get on the floor, blame Democrats for the spending and act opposed like McConnell does, then cut a deal with them behind closed doors to increase spending for everyone, then go to the country club to toast the idiot voters who elected you. Get with the program!

I'd like a formal apology from everyone who used the term "Paultard", thank you.
