“If Lugar loses in primary, he is DONE. Indiana has a sore loser law which prevents him from running after the primary.”
As we learned in Alaska in 2010, sore-loser laws merely prevent primary losers from running on another party’s line or as an independent, not from running a write-in campaign.
As for who should challenge Lugar (and I agree that it’s a question of who should challenge him, not if we should challenge him), I just hope that it’s one candidate, not two or three of them. If two conservatives challenge Lugar he will slide by easily.

If Lugar is defeated in the primary he can not run as a candidate of another party in the general election. Not in Indiana.

Fettig said if the Tea Party groups cant agree on a single candidate in 2012, then it will not be possible to defeat Lugar in 2012. He's right. That's how Coats got sent back to D.C. - too many conservatives running against each other in the primaries drawing the votes from each other and splitting the votes. Coats basically won by default.
Had all of the others dropped out so that it was one Tea Party candidate against Coats......we would now have a Tea Party candidate in the Senate.
We cannot afford to repeat this mistake against Lugar. We MUST UNITE with ONE candidate against him! Or Lugar will win the primary as Coats did. This is a warning I can't repeat loud enough!!!

If Lugar is defeated in the primary he can not run as a candidate of another party in the general election. Not in Indiana. Jerry's right. Should Lugar lose the primary (and God willing he will) Lugar's done. There is a law in Indiana, call it the sore loser law, but nevertheless it is illegal here to run as an independent once you've been defeated in your party's primary. At least within the same election year in which you lost your primary. If he loses, I believe he could run as an independent in the next election, but not in 2012.
If only Alaska had the same law we would not be dealing with Murkowski again!

Running again? Who is he kidding? Hell be 80 and going for another 6 year term? Lugar needs to retire.

Maybe every state should have a “sore loser law.”
