The Russian Air Force has lifted a ban on the flights of Tu-95 Bear strategic bombers imposed after an An-22 Cock transport plane was destroyed in a crash last December.
The plane crashed in the Tula Region on December 28, killing all 12 crew members.
The Air Force decided to ground all Tu-95s and An-22s because both aircraft types share the Kuznetsov NK-12 turboprop, whose failure was suspected as the main cause of the crash.
The An-22 remains the largest turboprop-powered aircraft in the world. Around 45 remain in service with the Russian Air Force and most are over 40 years old.

I think they might consider changing he aircraft's name, designation. An-22 Cock seems a name, designation with some mighty nasty karma.

I can remember these guys buzzing us far south of the equator.
It was always a wonder because they don’t have carriers so their range was spectacular.
They were noisy as hell, on the ocean we could hear them coming up to a full 30 mins before they were even visible. The vibration and noise must have been unbearable to the crews. Of course, they flew low to buzz us and take pictures.
The last one I saw was in 1993, after that they fell silent.
I bet our subs could hear them coming across the water for a hundred miles or more.
They still carry a deadly payload of AS-15 cruise missiles. They guys can be over the sea or the Artic and fire these missiles at U.S cities.
Can't argue with that. Why is it that their stuff always has a certain look of goofiness to it - unless it is a direct ripoff of something of ours?
Hey I love taking my An-22 Cock in for a landing once and A while. So leave the russians alone if they want to fly their AN-22 around also..
I’ve been testing the new An-28 Cock SE (Super Extend), love taking in for a landing as well especially in the unexplored nether regions of the forbidden zone.

Gotta agree with you on that. The Russians always seemed to do weird, unnatural things to their airplanes, especially the non-combat ones (though even those have weird engine arrangements and those odd things on the tails).

I think those 15 KHP Kuznetzov counter-rotators rip the air molecules apart. Maybe even the Oxygen and Nitrogen atoms.
